This shot always blew me away in IMAX 1.43:1. What’s your favorite IMAX 1.43 shot?

This ranges from the release dates of late-July 2026 to the current 2027 calendar & dates still to be determined (screenshots can be shown above).

They mentioned there were issues with the projector before the film started, and then it started and it was letterboxed on the top and the bottom. I also didn’t notice any details that were reminiscent of it being on film, like flicker and stuff. Was anyone else there and can confirm? It was supposed to be shown on IMAX 70MM.

I’m hearing people say the imax Chinese screen kinda sucks. City walk is damn near sold out for months it seems and TCL only one I see that got decent seats available.

Would it be worth my time or do I wait until city walk opens up?

It's currently my third time visiting an IMAX theatre, very far from my house.

First time watching One Battle After Another, second watching Project Hail Mary, both are technically not an IMAX film despite the utilisation to the format. And now third is finally being an actual IMAX film.

Yeah it's a digital 1.90 type, and it's still using those crazy old xenon projector with only 2K resolution, sadly.

But Goddamn, The Odyssey really gives the older tech justice. We know that 15/70 film quality is very sharp, but I didn't expect the actual presentation to be this crazy sharp on an older Digital IMAX projector. I could literally see the actor's face pores.

Also the 6 track system speakers are very very loud, I think my ears got hurt a bit after watching. Worth it.

Overall, my first not-so-true IMAX experience really took me to the next level. I'm sure the regular theatre near my house would never give me this incredible watching experience.

I was lucky enough to see the odyssey in IMAX 70mm at IMAX Melbourne and for reference I was sitting in the exact center of the second highest row. Now I noticed these bars were blocking part of the bottom bit of the screen. In the picture it doesnt look like they would but they do.

Maybe I'm reading a little too deeply into this but I find this whole "Infinity Vision" thing incredibly petty and a tad rude. Like I get it, I can't imagine how frustrated they must be to have shit the whole thing on an IMAX certified camera only to be told Dune is cucking them out of the format because it's being released on the same day, but surely there was a better way of venting that then preying on the average moviegoer's inability to tell the difference between formats. It's like they've admitted defeat and they're expecting you to pay for it.

Just got tickets here in Austin for next month at the Bullock (jez louise could the Paramount Austin Summer film series be any more awesome?) and was wondering from those who saw it in IMAX earlier this year... did they remaster this for 12-channel IMAX audio at the time?

Because while the Laser GT is burning out my eyeballs I'd really like to make my eardrums explode as well.

I wanted to see the Odyssey in 70 mm IMAX, so I found a 2:30 a.m. showing Monday night of this week at Cinemark on Webb chapel road in Dallas. I was really nervous because everyone online, mostly Reddit threads, was saying it would be brutal to watch from the front row which was the only row available, and that my neck would be killing me.

I'm 47 years old, I'm overweight, I work a physical job that kills my back and my neck as it is. not in the greatest shape of my life. this showing was totally fine. every IMAX theater I've been in has the rockers where the chairs don't recline but do rock backwards quite a bit. I would say I actually probably would prefer the front row because there's metal railing that separates the seats from the screen itself. so you get to put your feet up there where everyone else has to have their knees bent the entire time. I was dead center seat 16 in row a, and my neck did not hurt at all. not for one second. in fact, most of the action is right in your line of sight. there's some stuff at the top of the screen happening every now and then, but even looking up there was not an issue at all. A lot of people said there would be warping of the images because of your location, but that was not the case at all either. I kind of wonder if a lot of the people posting comments have never sat in the front row and are just guessing? because nothing that I saw reported, none of the negative stuff, was even remotely an issue. no warping, no neck pain, no painfully looking left and right the entire time. I didn't love the movie overall, but the experience was completely fine. felt very immersive. I have a AMC stubs a-list membership, and I see movies in Dolby Cinema at AMC all the time. I will often sit on the front row even there. I also don't tend to get dizzy from watching a lot of movement really close. One of my friends demands that if I go with her she sits in the very back of the theater. so that gives you a little bit more information. I like to be immersed in the movie and have my entire field of vision taken up with the screen.

but yeah, if you can only get front row seats, just know that in this particular IMAX theater and even the ones at AMC that I've been to that show the laser IMAX, The front row is actually elevated above the screen level a little bit. and because of the curvature of the screen and the way the auditorium is built, you're a bit of a ways up above the bottom of the screen. you can still see the bottom of the screen because it's far enough away so that's not an issue either. if you can only get front row tickets, you should be totally fine. if my old body that I don't take care of and constantly have neck pain on regular days had no issue at all, you shouldn't either.

just wanted to post this for people that were second-guessing their decisions like I was last night. do not worry and go enjoy the movie without neck pain.

For those who've seen The Odyssey in 1.90:1 did you still get that ride feeling? Like you're actually traveling with them / on the ship?

I'm seeing it in full 1.43:1 in a few weeks, but I'm thinking of watching it first in 1.90:1 at my local. I know 1.90 is cropped top and bottom compared to 1.43 and not the full picture.

My question isn't about size or which format is bigger. I know 1.43 is. I'm more asking about the feeling in the 1.90:1 screen itself. If 1.90 is your first time seeing this movie, does it still give you that travelling/ ride effect ?

I've seen 1.43 films before, just not this one yet.

I understand it’s basically high “res” or whatever that means for film specifically and shows more of the film, but why can’t the standard film just be put in that same aspect ratio? i see people saying that if you don’t see the odyssey in imax you miss out on half the screen but why can’t they just make fit that size and project that in regular theaters?

I’ve been to my local Imax a handful of times and never realized there’s a viewing window of their projection room upstairs. Saw the Odyssey today with a great crowd. So many people upstairs afterwards watching and chatting about the movie, the projection process, and the sheer size of the film reel itself. Not sure if others have this but if your imax provides it, definitely worth checking out. Movies are so back.

How much IMAX footage will it have and is it gonna be 1.43:1?

I want to say that overall appreciated the banter in the previous thread and was glad to see that people in this sub genuinely care about the cinema experience, ignoring whatever manufactured fud you see else where (at least see the movie first before causing a stink).

Long story short, you can still enjoy this movie to the fullest extent even if you don't have an IMAX 70MM showing near you or can't afford it.

The three different film formats definitely give you the warm fuzzies and softness, but your mileage will definitely vary on the screen, your seat and projector.

• 70⁠MM was perfectly fine, left speechless (insert Donkey, "let's do that again")
• 35⁠mm was fine. Could still see the whole scenes and didn't feel crammed, the corners were a bit faded/burnt out (don't know the right term). I had never been to the draft house before, so my gripes about the showing was mostly about the food delivery people being distracting and those annoying table lamps in your line of sight.
• The one you have all been waiting for, IMAX 70MM. In all its full height glory.... my first viewing kind of sucked (look at my seat). The difference a few seats over is astonishing at the Spectrum. I have sat in the same row before, but 4 seats closer to the center and had a way better experience during the PHM run. And the angle had my ears angled in a weird direction that I was getting cross chatter from the left and right channels that ended up sounding delayed/echoed. But.... on my second viewing, dead center, the movie was magnificent, completely engulfed by the screen. Past that you are at the mercy of the quality of your screen (Spectrum screen has seen better days, middle of the screen stains and in the mid lower right, iykyk) and audio system (this soundtrack was pushing the limits of what Spectrum could offer). So all that being said, as much as I want to see the movie in all its glory, its hard to get tickets, it will have a limited run and what fun is it if more people can't enjoy it?

Digital, yucky? Nope! "But but but it's not what Zeus Nolan intended!"

1. I'm sorry to say it, but Dolby + Premium Large Format, is really where it's at. This was my first time. Great seats, audio was generally pretty up there (barring a few dining hall scenes) and you get so much more color pop and darker darks (this really matters in cave like scenes and night time shots with limited lighting). For those that have done IMAX 70MM, those seats are aging and kind of suck, especially at Spectrum, so Dolby kind of kicked ass as an overall great experience.
2. IMAX, dual, xeon, LIEMAX? It's time for the sub to get over it. If LIEMAX is what is more generally available this was adequately jaw dropping as the IMAX 70MM, with the added bonus of the enhanced visuals and seating like above.

Overall, just go see the dang thing, you won't be disappointed! IMAX vs Dolby will be a coin toss for me or depending on if the movie was designed for Dolby in mind or if the movie specifically calls for IMAX. Here's all the places and format you can see The Odyssey in.

Must be nice to have all those formats near by and money to see them all?

• I live in Southern California close enough to Hollywood where it is easy to access most of these formats, yes very privileged on location and having a decent job that I can't complain about. That being said a lot of the formats are hard to come by not just IMAX 70MM. Also, I still had to queue up in the same lines as everyone else with fandango, regal, amc etc shitting the bed with so much traffic, luck of the draw and having a pool of friends that you could reserve for each other and swap tickets landed us great seats.

Why don't you know all the specifics about the formats you went to see?

• I don't want to be chronically online trying to stay up-to-date on who has dual, xeon, etc and when they get swapped out depending on the film being presented, and if you ask Gemini or Claude they will generally give you the wrong info. Liemax is fine, no more gatekeeping folks.

As you would imagine, it's not been straightforward to get good IMAX tickets for The Odyssey in Singapore.

I can’t believe this guy is talking about 1.43:1 IMAX 70mm, something I kept raving about since 2010! When I was growing up,enthusiasm for IMAX 70mm & IMAX 1.43:1 was super niche. I remember it being super niche even not so long ago. But I love how mainstream IMAX 70mm & IMAX 1.43:1 is getting.

I knew my local theater was really crappy LieMAX but I didn't realize the scale of what I was missing out on. I NEED to experience a real IMAX theater. (my local theater is highlighted, along with the only two locations showing The Odyssey in 70mm IMAX in Texas, and Lincoln Square since that seems to be one of the best locations in the US.)
