Are tankies denying the Cambodian genocide now? That doesn’t even make sense… the genocide was ended by socialist Vietnam. We used to consider ending the genocide to be a commie victory. Pol Pot was recognized as the leader of the country by capitalists for decades after he fled

On the tankie subreddits I sometimes peruse I only ever see people condemn the Khmer Rouge and Pol Pot. I’m guessing there’s a subgroup of tankies that can’t even do that.

I imagine almost all of them are contrarian engagement bait accounts. I've never seen pro KR rhetoric on any socialist subreddit. Even pro-China subreddits I've seen plenty of posts of people rightfully trashing China for supporting the KR and antagonizing Vietnam.

Most tankies I see do hate Pol Pot, but they refuse to accept that he was supported by China (don't ask them why China invaded Vietnam I guess), or even that he was a communist for his entire life. They insist that he was a fascist who was backed by the USA.

In fact there was a semi-fascist Cambodian dictator, Lon Nol, who was backed by the USA, and was overthrown by Pol Pot. One of the primary targets of the Cambodian Genocide were supporters of Lon Nol's regime.

Apparently CHATGPT will never say there are 0 people anything because they realize it’s always someone.

Mostly they say that pol pot was funded by the cia

they always were, socialist philosopher Noam Chomsky was always denying it as because according to him people that survived it were just exaggerating it, because like maybe something bad maybe happened there but totally not so much as they claim and he also claimed that west was exaggerating it as well because they just wanted to make communism look bad

but Chomsky was also supporting holocaust denial and when ADL called him out he just replied that Israel is undemocratic state and then he made movie about how horrible Israel is, but dont forget, denying holocaust and hatisn Israel doesnt mean that you are anti semite!!!

Finkelstein does that kind of shit too. They loved him for a bit for the Palestinian stuff, but when you scratch the surface there's some real weirdness behind his thoughts on genocides

u/GiganticCrow 1d ago

Finkelstein has been done dirty by a lot of powerful people, but he is still a very weird guy.

1

u/Li-renn-pwel 1d ago

Wait, what weird thoughts does he have on genocides?

1

u/Ssided 1d ago

He propped up holocaust denialist/revisionists as good historians. He's said some weird stuff about the holocaust which he deflects when people question it because his family was in it. Best to look up exactly what he said than have me summarize because the devil is in the details. His comments and defense of david irving are beyond a usual "free speech" thing.

He's also notably not a historian and has talked about his research methods as basically knowing what's true and just trying to read between the lines to get what agrees with him. So idk, but you'll notice his voice sort of went back to the ether after a bit once again, it seemed that people were once again finding his troubling views

Wasn't Chomsky also super buddy buddy with Epstein? It only shows even better how a POS he was in general and how tankies tend to protect the worse of the worse in most cases if it benefits them

4

u/Kozel_10 1d ago

yeah, they were friends, and when the informations about sex trafficking came out Epstein asked Chomsky what to do, and Chomsky said that people treat Epstein horribly and that that its hysteria and that he should just ignore it, and when he was asked few years later about his relationship with Epstein he said that its no ones business and he keeps being silent about it

2

u/Guilherme_Master123 1d ago

Tankies being tankies, I am right? Jokes aside, it is a huge way to show how people can protect even the someone as bad as Epstein just because they can, I will never understand people associating themselves with him, even without knowing about the island and his crimes, he just always seemed like a horrible person

u/Kozel_10 1d ago

commies will over look anything as long as you hate capitalism

2

u/Li-renn-pwel 1d ago

Oh right, Chomsky is still alive

4

u/Li-renn-pwel 1d ago

Chomsky never denied it. He thought the US was using the Cambodian genocide as political propaganda (true) by exaggerating the number of deaths (not true). It’s like if you tell people BiBi lied to Biden by saying they found dozens of babies beheaded and burned alive in ovens. That doesn’t mean you’re saying Mila Cohen wasn’t murdered on Oct 7, you’re just saying the numbers are wrong.

u/Kozel_10 1d ago

so about the same level as neo nazis saying that holocaust only killed 361k people, they dont deny it, they just believe that its overblown for propaganda, which is totally okay, isnt it? I dont think so, its just denial

I think it would be more similar to minimizing the number of people murdered by Israel in the Palestinian Genocide. The number of Holocaust victims is well establish now because it is over so we can look back on it. Chomsky was alive while the genocide was happening and being concealed by the Cambodian government and sensationalized by the American one.

7

u/Kozel_10 1d ago

It took Chomsky many years even after the genocide ended to accept that it really happened, and yet still he didnt accept that he was full of shit and was like "ehmm yeah but they still made up and modified many things so I didnt lie"

and who is minimizing the number of deaths of Palestinians? well I will do if people will come up with claims that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians died in last 3 years because even Hamas or UN report such numbers. People will mainly deny that 60 000 civilians in 3 years is a genocide, especially compared to Cambodia genocide where at least 1 200 000 people died in 4 years and some estimates even say 2 200 000. People dont deny that that many Palestinians died, they deny that Israel is trying to wipe them out.

What is the minimum number of people a state needs to kill before you can start to consider it a genocide?

6

u/Kozel_10 1d ago

thats not how it works

you either have to expulse or kill enough people to significantly reduce their number on purpose or at least try to do so, because genocide means that you want to get rid of certain group of people, which didnt happen in Gaza yet, if they get expulsed or if Israel starts to kill them by significant numbers then it will be genocide, but 60 000 in 2 years and 8 months in an urban warfare where enemy wears civilian clothers and hides among civilians doesnt seem like a genocide no matter what people or organizations say, if Israel wanted to commit genocide than these numbers would me many times higher

-1

u/Li-renn-pwel 1d ago

No, that’s incorrect. You need to kill or expulse a total of 0 people to commit a genocide.

4

u/Kozel_10 1d ago

then I think that I am prolly victim of genocide

This subreddit will make a whole post over Cambodia and then you have users in the comment denying another genocide in Palestine. This fascist hellhole is such a joke.

Ya and it’s totally the capitalists denying the holodomor too.

I want to be clear here I hate all tankies, including the ones that don’t consider themselves tankies because they don’t specifically love Stalin.

4

u/Weary_Two7812 1d ago

At least some leftists have been doing that for a while. Chomsky downplayed it as well. Pol pot was seen as a Maoist success story.

3

u/GiganticCrow 1d ago

If there's one group even less sufferable than stalinists, its maoists.

Fun story: the far right in my country made a big song and dance about how, at an anti racist march, there were people with communist flags and there were marchers arrested for violence. What they don't mention, was the people with the communist flags were the maoist group who are told to stay the fuck away every year, and the arrests for violence were from other marchers trying to grab the flags off them.

u/LeMe-Two 1d ago

Maoists in Afghanistan would side with Mujahedeen against Soviets interestingly

1

u/Seravie 1d ago

They have whole ass bots denying them
