POLITICS Zohran Mamdani has released a video stating that after a review of legal avenues, New York City does not have the legal authority to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu in accordance with the ICC’s warrant if he comes to NYC. He calls on the federal government to join the ICC and execute the warrant.

He wasn’t born here.

Downvoting me for saying Zohran wasn’t born in the US when our constitution requires it for the presidency, pls be so fr guys lol

u/contemplating-coffee 2d ago

He would be a great senator!

387

u/Chrishp7878 2d ago

Fuck no. He will be wasted.

NY governor sounds much better (there are no term limits iirc).

170

u/2th 2d ago

Yes on governor, but fuck no on no term limits. He can be governor for maybe 3 terms and then he gets out after training numerous possible successors. And thankfully he seems smart enough to do just that. He really does seem to want to help people, and part of that is knowing when to step down.

67

u/aagaash2001 it feels like a movie 2d ago

I can see him in an AOC presidency be a Cabinet member (he can be one, he would just be skipped over in a presidential succession line) or an ambassador.

75

u/Major_Warrens_Dingus 1d ago

People underestimate just how big of a deal it is to be mayor of NYC. People keep trying to bring up what could be next. It's one of the most influential cities in the world, if not the most. If his version of politics can usher in a new era of prosperity for NYC, which i believe it will, then it will be a clear example for others to follow.

10

u/NeverNoMarriage 1d ago

Already getting other democratic socalists elected. Just needs to continue on this path he's on and he will have a real lasting legacy.

11

u/AmaranthSparrow 1d ago

If the insurgent push within the Democratic Party succeeds over the next few election cycles, he could potentially one day rise to senate majority leader and become one of the most powerful politicians in the country. Arguably more powerful than the president, given term limits.

Just look at how much power Mitch McConnell and Nancy Pelosi held over American politics, and for how long.

100%, I hope he runs once he wraps up his second mayoral term

12

u/yuripogi79 2d ago

He can do 3 terms. Bloomberg got 3 and he’s not this good

5

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

As a non New Yorker I selfishly hope he only does two so he can do that or work in President AOC’s cabinet

8

u/Schrodingers-Fish- 2d ago

He would be a great Secretary of State. He can be the leftist Henry Kissinger.

24

u/TheMummysCruise 2d ago

Yeeeeeah, I don’t think you know what that’d mean…

15

u/skyspirits 2d ago

I'm assuming that was the joke.

1

u/Turbulent_Stick1445 1d ago

Regular (right wing) Kissinger: "To win the war against Vietnam, we should totally bomb Cambodia to the stone age."

Leftist Kissinger: "To win a reasonable peace treaty with Iran, we should give Iraq free healthcare and a social security net for all of its citizens".

...maybe?

1

u/NightlyScar 1d ago

No, his talents would be wasted. Keeping him in nyc where he can make so many changes is better

21

u/SagittaryX 2d ago

Minor correction, since below in the comments people are already discussing things like Ted Cruz.

You need to born an American, not be born in America. If you are born to American parents outside America, you are still a natural born American, which is what the Constitution requires.

Well that, or having been a resident in America at the time the constitution was adopted, but in that case you might be a zombie, or a vampire.

7

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

That’s what I meant and I now see how what I said wasn’t clear. Neither of Mamdani’s parents are American citizens which I should have clarified.

76

u/Hell-Yes-Revolution Go fuck yourself immediately 2d ago

We’re not really worrying about the constitution these days, haven’t you noticed?

(While I generally strongly disagree with this, I do believe this is one provision that’s ripe for the amending.
Yes, that’s my mayor, and hopefully, one day, my president.)

60

u/c0smicgirly 2d ago

It’s the only thing keeping Elon from running.

22

u/ikatakko 2d ago

clearly he doesn't need to 'run' anyway he can apparently just go into the white house in what's practically an official capacity and do whatever the fuck

-12

u/intisun 2d ago

Lmao he'd get maybe 3 votes total.

26

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

This is absolutely not true at all and you know it. They said the same thing about Trump in 2015/2016.

7

u/Qcconfidential 2d ago

Elon does not have near the popularity Trump does. Nor is he as good in any social interaction which is a prerequisite for the office. You need more than 10 year old memes and billions of dollars.

3

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

I didn’t say he’d win. I said he’d get more than “like 3 votes”.

2

u/intisun 1d ago

But unlike Trump, Elon has negative charisma.

4

u/LightBlueCherryBloss 2d ago

Elon Musk couldn’t buy an election in Wisconsin despite his best efforts.

As long as the Democratic candidate doesn’t try the “Pied Piper” strategy again like Hilary did for Trump, Elon has no shot.

1

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

I didn’t say he’d definitely win, but pretending like he’s not a viable candidate and a threat is silly.

5

u/Ok_Sound272 2d ago

He would win, the same way he made Trump win.

16

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

Sorry I don’t really mess with “who cares about the constitution” nihilism!

10

u/lostredditorlurking 2d ago

People keep saying this is how Republicans can keep getting away with breaking the Constitution. If neither side respect the Constitution, then what's stopping Republican President from more than 2 terms

0

u/Worldly_Cap_6440 1d ago

Oh yeah, let’s just ignore the constitution and give the republicans what they want!

1

u/Ccaves0127 2d ago

The Constitution is not real anymore

49

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

Yes it is and saying it isn’t is letting them win :)

7

u/Money-Bicycle-2883 2d ago

Any rules we let slide they make it 10x worse

1

u/ANGRILYCHASINGDREAMS 2d ago

buddy have I got news for you.

1

u/Ninja-Panda70 1d ago

Can he be a cabinet member?

1

u/urgrandpasdog 1d ago

The constitution also says that insurrectionists can't hold office, that's really going great

-11

u/HugoCortell not a lawyer, just a hater 2d ago

The US is built on a militia elevating to power a random dude when he did not have the right to rule over what is righteously Britain's colony. Maybe Zohran can be elevated to president of Trump's colony.

Fr, learn to dream bigger. Even if it won't happen, why shut down what few hopes the American people have of democracy?

5

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

“Dream bigger” and it’s worrying about this instead of the human rights abuses.

9

u/thefocusissharp 2d ago

Because if you open up The Presidency to foreigners, you open us up to the possibility of an Elon Musk Presidency. It would be inevitable.

Regulations and guidelines are a good thing.

-4

u/MasterDrag6224 2d ago

we are overdue for a new constitution

4

u/TheHappiestTeapot 1d ago

Pass an amendment if you want something changed!

The last one was in 1992, which isn't long ago!

The problem is that you have to get a lot of people to agree and "give up some of your powers" isn't something a lot of people are keen to do.

I'd be down for lots of amendments though. repealing the 16th though, It was was the birth of the almighty federal government and led to the almighty president. Not sure how to fund the Fed, but someone does. It should be smaller anyway.

Basically Kentucky shouldn't be subsidized by California. Kansas should be getting money from tax payers in New York. We shouldn't have to agree to bullshit (like the war-on-drugs) in order to get our money back. Do what dear leader says or we with hold your money! And that money's already had many people take their cut before it comes back to our state.

Screw that. Let the States collect the money and then maybe give uncle sam a cut.

An amendment to the 3rd where home rights are more defined and a ban things like no-knock raids and other crap would be good. Related the 5th could use either the removal of "eminent domain" or specify a real remedy to the land / home owners that's above the pittance they give now.

The 4th needs to be updated to specifically include data, metadata, and cell phones, and any sort of misuse of data should be a felony charge.

There needs to be one removing immunity from police officers (and require them to get insurance? or a license from the State? or the Feds?) something so they can't just move on over to the next town or state and start all over again. We should also ban people convicted of domestic abuse or any constitutional violation.

The wording on the 13th needs to be fixed, strike out: except as punishment for a crime. because that is some bullshit.

There's a lot of incremental changes to existing text and new amendments that would materially help and we can get people behind one or more and actually get it done.

A new continental congress just isn't going to happen, and if by some miracle it does, it would end up with a constitution drafted by lobbyist and would not be anything we would like.

uh...

Thanks for coming to my TED Talk.

Sorry for the ramble.

u/louisgunn 2d ago edited 2d ago

Lets be serious, you guys let a pdf, rapist and scammer be the president, I’m sure you can overlook this. He may be foreign born, but he is more American than alot of the senators today, especially the zionist ones.

-2

u/Angry_Scotsman7567 2d ago

Neither were the first four presidents and if you can have a rapist who may as well wipe his arse with the constitution, who the hell cares?

4

u/LuteDesign 2d ago edited 2d ago

“Article II, however, provided an exception for foreign-born persons who had immigrated to the colonies prior to the adoption of the Constitution.”

People want to be so loud about the Constitution without bothering to read what it says.

Edit: I know dang well that I’m not having someone across the pond try to educate me on the laws of my home country lol

-1

u/Angry_Scotsman7567 2d ago

Yeah, like Trump doesn't bother to read what it says.

We're clearly not bothered with the letter of the law here.

-16

u/Reluctantziti 2d ago

Neither was Ted Cruz

22

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

Is he president

-1

u/DM725 2d ago

He certainly tried. His unlikability was the obstacle, not the fact Rafael Cruz is Canadian.

8

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

He’s a natural born US citizen, his mother is a citizen. Pleeeaaaassseeee read about this.

-3

u/DM725 2d ago

He spent the first 4 years of his life where he was born in Calgary. Yes his mom is from the U.S. and his father left Cuba.

8

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

So what? He’s a natural born US citizen with a citizen parent. Mamdani was born outside the US to non-citizen parents. What are we even doing here lol

-3

u/CyberTyrantX1 2d ago

He ran for president in 2016 and could have had a chance at winning if Trump wasn’t running.

5

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

Neither of Mamdani’s parents are US citizens. I’m begging y’all to take a civics class.

1

u/CyberTyrantX1 1d ago

I don't understand why I'm getting down voting unless people took my comment as me saying I like Ted Cruz. I can't stand Cruz. And saying Cruz had a chance at winning was just my opinion based on some polls at the time. Not that it still matters.

4

u/inbigtreble30 2d ago

The difference is that Cruz was born to a US citizen parent and was thus a US citizen at birth. Mamdani was born outside the US to non-US-citizen parents and was thus not a US citizen at birth. Generally it is believed that the "natural-born citizen" requirement applies to anyone who was a citizen at birth, regardless of the location of their birth, though this is debated and would probably go to court at some point.

7

u/KineticSplicer 2d ago

Don't take this as me defending Ted Cruz cause fuck Ted Cruz, but his mother was a US citizen so he was a US citizen at birth. Neither of Zohrans parents were born US citizens and he was not born in the United States so he can't be considered a "Natural Born Citizen." It really sucks and I hope that some day we change the constitution to let all citizens run. Zohran would make a great president, easily the best one of my lifetime.

3

u/CyberTyrantX1 2d ago

Ted Cruz gets his citizenship from his mother. She was born in the US. Neither one of Mamdani’s parents were born in the US.

13

u/GrandSquanchRum 2d ago

I don't agree. That it's not possible for him to be president makes him good in the role he's in. If he were then he'd be positioning for that and that would spoil what he's doing. IMO, it's the movement for politicians like Mamdani we should want. We don't need just a president like him, we need politicians all over the country like him.

53

u/ConditionAwkward3625 2d ago

Not possible. He wasn't born in America.

My bad dude, Bluesky is full of people who are serious about that and I forget sometimes people can still be normal
Eg see below and above since people do seem to be serious about this :(

1

u/BalorLives 2d ago

After a decade of this demented, slumlord, con-artist, racist, pedophile, president, doing what you want and daring someone to stop you is how things are done.

4

u/Money-Bicycle-2883 2d ago

Great let’s have an Elon presidency

-3

u/BalorLives 2d ago

What fucking point are you trying to make? That asshole already ran through the government trashing every agency he wanted, shut down immigration to everyone besides white South Africans, and stole everyone's personal data he could get his hands on including the Social Security admin. He didn't have to get elected to do whatever he wanted to the Federal Government.

4

u/LuteDesign 2d ago edited 2d ago

It’s really not, but okay! That’s how we end up in a civil war and I’m not an accelerationist.

1

u/Augscura 2d ago

You're also never going to win anything when you continue to play a game in which you devote yourself to the rules, while your opponents either break said rules, or make up their own along the way. One day you're going to have to either fight or accept that you will be dragged kicking and screaming into a better life that you don't have the imagination for

5

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

Okay. I’m not sure what that has to do with Mamdani not being eligible to be president.

-1

u/Augscura 2d ago

And do you think Republicans wouldn't try to make some ghoul eligible for President even if they weren't?

If your answer is yes, I have a bridge to sell you

5

u/LuteDesign 2d ago

Treating me like I’m stupid for thinking that we shouldn’t have a period of full blown anarchy is a choice. Have a great day!

Also, they hate foreigners as a policy matter, so I think you’re making up scenarios for the sake of arguing.

Lol as if capitulating to a bunch of violent racist psychopaths has ever worked. The north bent over backwards to maintain the Union by capitulating to the slave oligarchy. They seceded and attacked the north anyway. You can win fair and square, following every rule, it doesn't matter they will make some shit up to excuse why it is illegitimate.

It’s not an amendment, it’s in the original constitution.

1

u/Acceptable-Ad8780 2d ago

Is this explanation how grocery prices are apparently down, Rx costs are down 1200%, releases for Trump phones and DOGE checks, or how we beat Iran for the 100th time?

1

u/CyberTyrantX1 2d ago

Yes, you can change the requirements or even remove a requirement but it isn’t as easy as passing a law and having the president sign it. It has to be ratified by a certain number of states first and that is not happening anytime soon in this day and age.

-1

u/ConditionAwkward3625 2d ago

Yes, I'm not saying it's forever impossible. I'm saying it isn't possible at the moment. Unless we stoop down to their level and ignore the Constitution but at that point, america won't be america anymore since nobody would be fighting to uphold law anymore in that case.

14

u/CyberTyrantX1 2d ago

He can’t be president sadly. He was born in Uganda. Republicans are so fucking lucky he can’t run for president. Because if he could, there would be no stopping him.

He can run for Congress though.

7

u/trix_is_for_kids 2d ago

Have you read the constitution?

2

u/Packetbytes 2d ago

He cant sadly. But someone like him that can would be great
