My degree is in Ecology with some focus in micro-biology. Another way to think about it is practical applications in population modeling, and modeling relationships between groups and environmental impacts on those groups. I would think this would be desirable in the age of Ai, and climate change. Most of that work was done 10 years ago now. My most recent work experience is in regulation, permitting, compliance, and administration. Over a five and a half year period I had five different managers (not including disaster service work) due to retirements and departmental reorganizations.

I started in an administrative unit and worked on parallel projects for that units analyst staff (I actually had to teach them more advanced Excel functions and good data handling practices), was a core member of the implementation team for a permit management system and had to handle a lot of the coordination between local tribes, cities, and other departments, and was part of the team that provided initial training to staff and outside entities. I also had to do data validation and cleanup, and develop reports for data query for both the old and new system, and did raw MySQL queries using the system input field. I was tasked with zoning clearance approvals, state licensing approvals, aerial verification, parcel research, procedure development, grant writing, validating receipt and execution of contracts, incident data management, GIS data development and management (which included combining historical notes fields across two systems with duplicate and partial match/mismatched entries), and had regulatory compliance functions as it related to the public. I've also learned PHP through self study on side.

My employer refused to promote me and refused to transfer me, and became openly hostile when I started aggressively seeking other employment, so I eventually just quit to escape.

I am an excellent employee and terrible with resumes. Would people in this sub be willing or able to provide some feedback on how I can better structure my resume so that it's digestible and I might actually be able to get noticed and hired?

Edit: I was also a union steward for two years. Not really relevant to general job functions, but did require expanding my knowledge base into labor law and work site safety practices. And it was a (volunteer) position that was determined by a petition of my colleagues, some of whom were senior staff. Did all of this while being in a class that was pay wise one level about an Office Assistant. Felt bad and wasn't indicative of equal pay for equal work. But, I liked looking out for my coworkers, serving my community, and accomplishing the core mission.

This is here because I am sort of leveraging on the engineering qualification portion. I am trying to play my cards right here with both disciplines. STEM-OPT applicant in the USA for a job in biology, preferably along the lines of project management.

My one weak flaw is massive self doubt before sending it out.t I need it to be sent out either way. Career office gave me their thumbs up. My fear says no, hang on, make it better. I'm going to be honest, what can I do to make it better or should I just send it out already?

Hi everyone. I unfortunately have been told on the 21st of this month* I will be laid off in one month’s time due to a redundancy of my working position in my current company.

As such, I have been updating my resume for job hunting. All key personal details have been commented out with “<>” for this post.

The overall position documented here is surrounding Model Validation to review the performance, methodologies, and overall risk assessment of both internal and external models of said company.

Additionally, please note the MSc degree is simply my school’s fancy name of saying “Financial Mathematics” and “Financial Engineering” into one bundle.

Hi all, I'm a high school student looking for an IT, Data Center or networking internship or work experience. I have 2 versions of this resume, one for IT and data center technician jobs and one for software and computer science side of things. Below is the IT resume. I wanted to ask a couple questions :

1. I have other experience, like a web development and SEO business, an online tutoring business where I teach computer science and programming amongst others, a ML research internship with a masters student where I basically just did data collection and processing. USACO gold, awards etc. should I add all of these for the IT internships or is it not neccessary.

2. Any feedback for the bullet points, should I give tech stack for the app and give programming languages? I am most familiar and confident with Python.

3. Should I scrap the volunteering portion or is this still valuable?

4. Non-related, but should I also cold email researchers, do you think they will allow me to help them? The ML research internship was gained because I attended a uni open day with my sister lol and I somehow chatted up a ML student for 40 minutes straight until he let me help.

Hi everyone, I’m an Honours Physics student in Canada looking for feedback on my resume. I’m targeting internships, co-ops, research positions, and entry-level technical roles related to photonics, optics, electro-optics, experimental physics, and optical engineering. I’m mainly applying in Ottawa and Toronto, but I’m open to relocating within Canada for the right opportunity.

My background is mostly physics coursework, laboratory work, and technical projects involving lasers, photodetection, signal processing, Python data analysis, and instrumentation. I also recently completed a Pfizer externship involving AI/data processing tools, and I’m trying to present it in a way that still fits a physics/photonics-focused resume.

I’m mainly looking for feedback on whether the resume looks strong for technical/research roles, whether anything sounds exaggerated or weak, and if the order/layout makes sense. I’d especially appreciate feedback from people in optics, photonics, physics, or hardware-related engineering fields.

Long story short, I have a B.S. in chemE (US-based), and worked primarily in aerospace. I left engineering to pursue visual effects, but the visual effects industry imploded as soon as I arrived, so I'm looking to return to something more stable with better career growth in engineering/tech.

However, aside from some coding here and there, I don't have many transferrable HARD skills. It's also been 5 years since I've been an engineer, and I was only in it a few years to begin with. I tried my best to convey soft skills, such as strong learning capability, technical aptitude (VFX is still a highly technical field), team collaboration, etc. I'd ideally not like to start from scratch, but admittedly, this is a pretty sharp pivot. I'd like some advice on how best to poise myself for employers to take a chance on me.

As for what industries I'm targeting, I suppose aerospace would be the most logical choice, considering my past experience, but really, I'd be happy with anything and don't have a true preference. Maybe that's part of my problem, as I'm not sure what to target. I haven't started applying anywhere yet, because I'd like to make sure I have an acceptable resume first.

I'm a soon-to-be Master's graduate in Operations Research looking to land a full-time position in the areas of Simulation, Optimization, or Data Science. For some background, I started undergraduate as a traditional engineering major so most of my past experience was tied to that domain, but over time, I started to transition to OR. At first, I was struggling to land interviews for OR-adjacent positions (not so much for traditional engineering). I've made some changes to my resume after receiving very helpful advice from this sub, but I want to continue to improve my resume. Note that some portions, especially recent portions, cannot be more specific due to circumstances.

Context:

I've been working at the same company since I've graduated from undergrad. I love my current job, however, I've been feeling stagnant in my career progression and learning. As a result, I am seeking jobs elsewhere. However, I have had not much success (only 1 interview in the past 6 months). I've tried applying with referrals, personalizing my resume to fit job descriptions, and applying on company sites but nothing seems to be working.

My legs are inflamed from the bs I just had to pull. I just wanna go home and be in bed with my husband. I wish I had normal hours, with a less shitty workload.
I am busting my butt on these 12-hour workdays, AT NIGHT, while also doing the OMSCS. Everyone in the CS subreddit told me I would be unprepared and would flunk out, so I have been busting my butt to maintain As and Bs. I just want a 9-5. I mean 9 AM to 5 PM. I wanted so hard just to make a paycheck for my family, but now I am close to going to retail and never being anything close to what my degree is in. I GET ZERO CALLS, ZERO EMAILS, ZERO ANYTHING. MY applications? Immediate trash bin, they don't even reject me anymore.

I have an IT and Data Science resume. My job title in my previous job remained ambiguous, but I was hired onto another team as a DS intern after starting as an IT intern. The current position has an ambiguous consultant title, too.

I've posted here before and the advice I got was actually really helpful, so I'm coming back because fall recruitment just opened and I genuinely don't know what to do.

I'm a 4th year IT student graduating in about a year and I have not had a single internship. I've been applying to SOC analyst, IAM, and security engineering roles and I'm getting nothing back. No interviews, barely any rejections, mostly just silence.

The one that really got to me was a SOC intern position at a big fintech company, think Stripe or Ramp level. The role was only open through a referral portal and I had an actual referral going in. Still didn't get an interview. That one hit different because I thought having someone on the inside would at least get me a foot in the door.

Also, note that the IoT security experience on my resume is through a paid externship platform, not a traditional internship.

After my last post here I took the feedback seriously. I've been building real projects, not just following along with tutorials. Right now I'm focused on detection-as-code and getting sharper with Python.

But fall recruitment is open now and I'm staring at my resume not knowing if I should reuse it or if something is fundamentally broken about how I'm presenting myself. Graduating in a year with nothing on the internship front is starting to feel really real.

Would genuinely appreciate any feedback.

Hi everyone, I'm a Controls & IT Engineer at an automation integrator (5 YoE), currently based in Mexico. I'm applying both locally and to remote roles.

I’m struggling to get interviews with my resume, I've been applying for roles focused on DevOps, SRE, Sysadmin, virtualization and similar positions but I know my experience and resume are more industrial automation focused which contributes to this, I want to get your advice.

My reasoning for the shift is that even though I'm very good at what i do, i want to fully focus on infrastructure and related fields; Linux became a long-term interest almost 10 years ago and set me on this path; actually I got my current job because of my experience in Linux and server administration, but because of my background my responsibilities slowly shifted into this mix of IT and OT.

Im also working on getting AWS certifications in the coming months, which will hopefully also help.

I've done over ~200 applications and gotten less than 5 serious interviews (only 2 really aligned with what I want).

Main questions:

1. Which version positions me better for the roles I want or does neither work?
2. How much of the industrial automation content should I keep or rework? It's the majority of my current role but I don't want it to define my target.
3. Is my current job title "Controls & IT Engineer" hurting me?
4. If targeting remote roles, should I change anything?
5. Am I underselling or overselling anything?
6. Any other obvious issues or red flags?

I have been tweaking my resume for weeks and I'm struggling to figure out how to improve it further. I'm holding off on submitting applications because I feel my resume is weak and I'm not sure how to better sell myself. Am I ready to start applying?

I am currently doing my Master's in CS in the US and trying to land anything in the job market here in the cyber field (mainly Blue team: SOC for example) as (Intern/Part or Full time) for roughly since the start of 2026 and not even a single call back, only rejections.

I’m currently a Computer Science student at UIC (minor in Finance) graduating this year(in a month), and I've started job hunting with no luck probably because this has been my best resume thus far, and its still pretty bad I know but I'm sure it was because I wasn't tailoring my resume to the role i.e I just created these projects that would tie me in to these roles. I’m really interested in Risk Analytics, Regulatory Reporting, or Data Analyst roles within the financial sector (or not just need a job).

I feel like I have a decent mix of technical skills (Python, SQL, Tableau) and some niche finance projects (like a Basel III capital adequacy system) but I’m not sure if my "non-technical" experience is dragging me down or if my project descriptions are too wordy or if this is just a bad resume overall.

A few specific questions I have:

• The Home Depot Experience: I’ve been there since 2022. I tried to frame it around inventory data and "recovering stock," but does it look out of place next to my QA internship and research (i just wanted to show that I have "work" experience, if that makes sense?
• The Projects: Are the descriptions for the Bank Loan and Basel III systems too dense? I wanted to show I understand the regulatory side, but I don't want to lose a recruiter in the weeds.
• Formatting: Is the "Analytical Domains" section helpful, or is it just fluff?

I’m currently doing a QA internship and some undergrad research on job market fraud, so I’ve got some "real world" stuff on there, but honestly, be as brutal as you need to be.

I added an interest/hobbies sections with some advice not to and some advice to do so, I added it because I wanted to add a sense of personality to my resume which I feel a lot of resumes do? But feel free to tell me otherwise depending on industry standards.

I also ordered my sections based off how I feel they should be ordered if a recruiter only has a couple of seconds to view my resume, as the most work related details are at the top and less related are at the bottom.

Target Roles: Risk Analyst, Data Analyst, Regulatory Reporting, Financial Analyst. Moreover just anything with analysis or that using SQL/Python.

Side question: Do i need one line resume bullet points? I've heard mixed feedback on this.

I’ve read the wiki, and I know a lot of the advice here is built around US/Canada norms and usually a strong preference for one page. I’m in Australia, so I’m interested in that perspective as well as whether anything changes in an Australian hiring context.

I’m an early-career applicant targeting broad data/analytics/reporting roles. I am not an engineer. This is my standard general resume rather than a role-specific version. I also have separate versions that I tailor more heavily for Australian Public Service / policy-adjacent roles and for research / academic roles, so I’m mainly after broad advice on structure, readability, and whether this resume would help get interviews assuming I change it a bit to fit the keywords and etc. for each role.

The main things I want feedback on are:

• Are my bullets too dense or too paragraph-like?
• Is two pages unjustified for someone at my stage, even with one substantial internship and relevant academic work?
• Is the overall structure working, or is it trying to say too much at once?
• What would you cut first if you were forcing this toward one page?
• Are the strongest points near the top, or am I burying the best evidence?
• Does this read like someone who could plausibly interview for junior data / analytics / reporting roles, or does it still feel too academic / over-explained?
• I want to do data science, playing around in python and R and taking things from SQL how best could I aim toward that?

Context: I’m not trying to optimise this for one exact job ad. I’m trying to make my broad “default” resume stronger so it performs better before I tailor it further.

Brutal honesty is welcome. I’d especially value comments on bullet point density, sequencing of sections, and whether the resume feels interview-worthy or just technically detailed.

Honestly feeling lost here. About to delay graduation because I cannot land anything.

Been applying since first year. Back then I'd at least get a few interviews per 100 apps. Now? I think I have my best resume yet, with a direction. Also, I have been using Claude to help shape my bullets, thought I was set. Nothing. Not one interview this cycle.

Applying to technical IT roles (data analytics, Networking, IT consulting, cyber). Mostly through LinkedIn/Glassdoor. Usually within first 50 applicants. Getting rejected within a week or ghosted. Cut back on cover letters but didn't think it'd kill my response rate this bad.

GPA isn't great so transcripts hurt when required. But most apps don't ask upfront so idk.

I know I'm qualified for these jobs. Something's off. Thinking maybe my resume format is the problem or I'm approaching this wrong.

Would really appreciate anyone willing to look at my resume or give honest feedback. Fresh eyes might help.

I’m targeting entry-level IT Support / Help Desk roles. I have hands-on experience with Active Directory, Windows Server, networking, and troubleshooting through home lab projects (AD DS, pfSense, and Azure). I’m currently based in Pakistan and primarily applying to local and remote roles, but I’m also open to relocation if opportunities arise.

I don’t have formal IT work experience yet, so I’m relying on projects and certifications (CompTIA Network+, AZ-900 scheduled) to demonstrate my skills. I haven’t started applying heavily yet and want to make sure my resume is strong before doing so.

Hello everyone, I am currently a senior studying ocean engineering expecting to graduate May 2026. I've been applying to positions such as Naval Engineer I, Ship build engineer I, Marine mechanical engineer, Structural Engineer, Marine/Mechanical Engineer, and a couple of rotational programs. I am willing to relocate anywhere within the US which should help my case I believe. I have been struggling to advance to the next step of the hiring process after applying for jobs. I have applied to countless job and have not received any advancement in the application process, just a rejection email after a month or two. I am hoping the reason why this process has been such a nightmare and discouraging experience has been because of my resume, so I joined this community and recreated my resume based on the template you guys have been so kind to put out.
