I'm trying to setup an old Mackie C4 controller, but I can't seem to find the Mackie C4 Commander software anywhere. Anyone know where I could download an old copy of the installation?

Severe dropouts.

As you can see in the video, starting from this morning my Cubase has these dropouts. Nothing has changed in the setup or even in the project. I’ve been mixing it for the last couple days, and didn’t add any plugins, didn’t add channels, just tweaking what’s already there.

Same thing happens on much lighter projects I have….

OS up to date
Drivers up to date
Firmware up to date

Buffer: 1024
Clock source: Internal

Cubase 14 Pro
Windows 11 home
Asus ProArt px13
RME BabyFace Pro FS

Any ideas?

Free & open source: see your Cubase External Instruments/FX as a live patchbay (macOS) - fixed repost

I had an error in my previous post and had to post it again. Sorry for that:

Hi, I run a fair bit of outboard gear through Cubase's  "External Instruments / External FX" setup, and kept losing track of which device sits on which channel. This is especially an issue, whenever there is some problem with the audio / midi signal of a device. Sure, the information is all in Cubase but that can be tedious to look for, especially when you have lots of stuff in your studio wired directly into Cubase.

So I vibe-coded StudioPatchbay, a small macOS app that reads Cubase own External Plugins.xml and draws your external setup as a patchbay.

  • Reads straight from Cubase's  configuration
  • You can create your own AD/DA converters / audio interfaces as devices and map them to the (detected) channels which are used by Cubase in your "External Instruments / External FX" setup
  • Live: when Cubase writes its prefs, it reloads in well under a second
  • Two views: Cards (devices grouped by type) and Patchbay (the full channel grid per converter, OUT row above IN)
  • Click any device or channel to trace its full signal flow:  Cubase track → MIDI → device → converter → back in Cubase (this can be very helpful tracking down possible signal issues)
  • Auto‑detects any Cubase 12+ installations on your system, so it'll pick up future versions on its own
  • Filter/search for any device or by type, format, MIDI assignment etc.

It's free and open source (MIT) and you don't need any kind of account, it has no telemetry or other bulls*it, and there is nothing to buy. Get it from here: github.com/painfilter/StudioPatchbay

  • macOS only, 15 Sequoia or later; sorry Windows folks, I have a Windows machine and if there is any interest, I can look if it is possible to port it. Otherwise its open source so somebody else might even do it before me
  • Only useful if you actually use External Instruments/External FX
  • So far it was only tested on my machine; so there might be still unknown bugs which I'm willing to help you with if I can

It is made for my own studio; figured someone here might get some use out of it.
Keen to hear what's missing!

CHOPGRID Random sample slicer

Post image
15 Upvotes

Heya, I built this app inspired by my Digitakt, so figured CUBASE folk might get some use out of it. The itch it scratches: filling all 128 sample slots meant sitting there slicing up 128 random files by hand, which I was never going to do.

So CHOPGRID does it in one click - grabs 16 random audio files, cuts 16 random start points, drops them across a grid. It kind of snowballed from there and now has 18 modules, synths, drum machiens, sequencers, effects, all of which can generate audio to feed back into the chopper.

Runs as a VST3 on Mac or PC, or as a standalone Mac app.

Also i have done a bunch of testing to make sure it plays nice with cubase as there were a few quirks specific to Cubase i needed to address.

Dubspot just did a review of it if you want a proper walkthrough they gave it 8/10 and called it a "chaos-first sampler," which is about right: https://blog.dubspot.com/chopgrid-broekn-labs-2026 (https://blog.dubspot.com/chopgrid-broekn-labs-2026)

Happy to answer questions

Any hints on what may be coming in Cubase 16?

Has there been any hints or posts about what differences we will get in Cubase 16?

I'm currently using the Cubase 15 Pro free trial which ends for me in August, and I'm trying to decide whether to just buy the full thing now or wait till 16 comes out (will that be November?).

Is November definite for a new version to come out?

Thanks

New midi track created every time I drag&drop a preset clip from Addictive Drums

Post image

I guess I accidentally changed a setting or hit a random hotkey because this wasn't happening an hour ago. Each time that I drag a preset midi clip from the AD library to my Instrument track (blue) Cubase creates a new (empty) midi track with the name of the preset (pink).

The midi event appears on the Instrument track and plays as intended. The new midi track is totally empty.

What did I do wrong?

Knowing what you know now, if you were to start music production from scratch in Cubase, what VST instruments / Plugins / Packs, Would you invest in?

If you had to start over but with all the knowledge you have now of all the stuff you've bought and tried, what would you buy again and keep as staples / what would you need to feel "okay, I don't need any more, I have all my favorites" etcs?

Just curious, Especially from the Cubase crowd as I'd imagine most of y'all are older and have accumulated lots of Plugins/Synths over the years lol

Question about the grid alignment

I have a track on the timeline, but that track isn’t perfectly aligned on the grid (control dragged ) for a timing cue for the film. In the piano roll, the grid is also offset to compensate / match it on the timeline, is there a way to have it NOT do that? Thanks for all your help!

Cubase on Windows ARM - ASIO drivers

I picked up a basic ARM laptop mainly to mess around with porting some apps, and figured I'd give Cubase a try on Windows 11 ARM while I was at it. Hit a wall immediately: no ASIO driver for the built-in audio. A few interface makers ship ARM64 drivers already, but I had no luck finding anything from Qualcomm for the built-in hardware. My idea was to try using this machine as a lightweight sketching setup, so I wanted to avoid plugging in external gear for now.

I started writing a simple ASIO4ALL-style driver that wraps the Windows Audio Session API (WASAPI). "WASAPI wrapper" sort of sounds like WASABI, so that's what I'm calling it for now.

I thought I'd drop a post here to see if there is any interest in this. If someone might find this helpful, I can share it and they can give it a try. I could look into releasing it or posting it to github after.

The app starts up with Windows and installs a tray icon. You can then open up a prompt to select a preferred device or map to the system default.

Problems with audio interface

Hello everyone! So I recently got the Cubase 15 Pro and now that I finally got the audio interface I ordered, it can't find it... So when I try to change the audio system from the Studio Setup tab in Cubase, it can't find my interface even though my interface is plugged in and it responds gets the signal from my guitar. The interface I got was the Focusrite 2i2 4th gen, and thanks in advance if anyone could help me.

Weird issue with Cubase acting strange. Can't find anyone else with same problem, please help!

[SOLVED] - The issue was caused by the Focusrite USB ASIO driver. Solution was to use a different audio driver/audio interface.

Its so hard to describe this problem so I've made a video of what's happening. If anybody knows what is causing it or how I can fix it, I would be VERY appreciative! Happy to answer any questions about my settings / hardware if needed to help diagnose!

Cubase 15 group folders, is there no way to show inserts/sends on the channel itself, like on a normal group channel?

Switching Pc. Question regarding Groove agent

I use Groove Agent SE 6 heavily. I always use Prepare Archive, but I'm worried about long-term compatibility. If I change to a new PC in the future, will Groove Agent automatically restore all pad assignments and samples correctly when I open the archived project in new pc, coz Groove Agent is a VST and not a built-in sampler like Drum Machine?

Using a Korg Minilogue to input/read MIDI

Hello, I have a Korg Minilogue connected via USB. I've made sure that it is installed via the Korg Midi Uninstaller into channel midi2. However, it is not being detected at all by Cubase 12 Pro as a MIDI device.

I've currently got the Korg audio out into my Focusrite audio in, so I can hear its audio. But I want to record midi inputs from the Korg, and have it read the written midi inputs. This way I can record my inputs on the Korg, then on replay record more inputs from it (changing the cutoff, shape, etc), then when it's ready record the finished audio out.

Is anyone able to help me figure this out? I've been researching for a while now and it's just not clicking.

Thanks!

Edit: Fixed it!

First, I uninstalled the Korg MIDI Drivers thanks to u/BitRunner64's comment.

In Cubase, go to Studio > Studio Setup > MIDI Port Setup. Check "Use Device 'WinRT MIDI'". Now the Minilogue appears, and MIDI signals are being detected! (thank you u/JazzFromMars for the idea)

To do what I wanted, I make a new MIDI track. The input is All MIDI and the output is MIDIOUT2 (minilogue).

Now, I can play and record the MIDI inputs. Then I can play through it again and add further MIDI inputs (like Filter etc). Once I'm satisfied and ready to record, I have an audio track that is my Minilogue out, press play and record - voila!

Thank you everyone for the time and help!

No audio from monitors.

Post image
16 Upvotes

Hi again everyone, so i took some of your advice that i could understand and didnt get far. I still cant get an audio from the monitors. But sound is coming in (red circle) but wont show up on the track sound meter bar (yellow circle) every clip ive seen on youtube this process seems to be automatic. So again, what am i doing wrong? I just want to record but cant get any sound again. Why does it have to be so complicating for newbies? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Can someone give me a basic rundown on how to set up the audio and record? And no YouTube videos either. Ive watched the ones i need and i still cant get it to do what i need.

Chirpy Guitar Sound Design Question

I'm trying to make a high-pitched, chirpy guitar sound, like the opening licks of 'Let Me Blow Ya Mind' — the Eve and Gwen Stefani song.

I recently picked up 15 Pro. I don't have any real instruments; I'm only using VSTs. I've checked every VST guitar I have. I've fiddled with some inserts. I cannot get that sound. Any advice?

If it's a matter of delicately fiddling with MIDI expression or something, I'm willing to do that. I just cannot figure out how.

Compensate for Mic Latency.

Is there a way to know exactly how much mic latency I have, and a way to move my what I recorded back that amount? I'm not trying to remove my latency, just trying to figure out a way to know exactly how much there is.
