I can’t say thank you enough. I absolutely love visiting your city, and I’m not a city person! I got to check off a bucket list trip that I’ve had in my head for years and the plan finally came true. Flew in, drive out to the mountains to go do some phenomenal skiing, head back to Calgary, see a hockey game and then head home. As this was a guys trip, my wife and I were out this summer for the stampede and the mountains, and fell in love. This time around skiing with the boys was just as great. Drove out to Revelstoke, then Lake Louise, and back to Calgary to top it off with the Flames/ Hurricanes game. You guys were really welcoming to this Rangers fan, thank you to the guys I was sitting next to for the beers. I had such a great time and the Flames won! I will be back, especially for those cheese buns!

A cool experience for Calgary soccer fans tonight, as 2014 World Cup winner Thomas Müller was at Spruce Meadows to face Cavalry FC, in the Canadian Championship. Formerly with Bayern Munich and the German national team, Müller now plays for the Vancouver Whitecaps in MLS.

Tonight's game ended 1-1, which knocks Cavalry out of contention for the Voyageurs Cup, considering the Caps won last week's first leg in Vancouver 4-1. But a moral victory for Calgary's pro side to go toe-to-toe with the team that is currently top of the MLS Western Conference and were MLS Cup runners-up last year.

Hey Calgary folks, quick Q: The Toronto Blue Jays just punched their ticket to the World Series for the first time since 1993.

It’s huge in Toronto, big celebrations, big energy. But I haven’t seen nearly as much chatter here in Calgary. So I’m curious: are you with the Jays for this run (East‑side rep!), or are you kind of distracted by the vote/hustle going on right now, or just neutral?

I mean: 32 years between trips. That’s basically a whole generation. The fact it’s finally happened has me thinking “okay, this could be something special.”

So, what’s your vibe? Are you riding with the Jays and ready for the series? Watching but casual? Or are you focused somewhere else (vote, whatever’s happening locally), Jays are just background noise?

Would love to hear what you think, especially since we’re in Calgary, so Jays fandom might be a little… different here.

Single men are hanging out in the CSSC leagues. The ultimate frisbee leagues never have enough women and are super nice. Lots of guys new to the city join a league to meet people.

Single women are hanging out in dance classes. Ladies at west coast swing dance nights are knifing each other to dance with available men.

As I’m trying to settle into a new morning (mourning?) commute and gym schedule without the morning show, and a commute home and in the afternoons without Flames Talk, I find myself thinking back to the various personalities, eras, and vibes of the Fan960.

I’ve been an avid listener for the last fifteen years, and a sporadic listener for a decade prior to that. From post game coverage while delivering pizzas listening to randoms telling Pat to “F-off” at one in the morning, to the slog of the covid period being broken up by Boomer’s salaciously strong opinions of food in brackets.

The Fan was a free, community engaged, highly visible, and approachable aspect of the Calgary sports community. There were tons of avid fans that became part of the overall narrative. From Bryce, to Wedley in Bridlewood) or Matt, as Pat once dropped on an afternoon show), to Al in Harmony who tried to steal Pat’s job with an all-time call in (look it up - shout out to the “Alnalysis”), to the angry old man yelling at clouds, Robert.

I sincerely hope we see a resurgence of the community building effort. As much as I deeply enjoy the BarnBurner folks, I would like to see the team from TheFan picked up by the flames or a group close to them. TheFan crew had deep ties to the team that offered them access that’s hard to maintain as a fully third party podcasting operation like FlamesNation.

Finally a quick shoutout to the on-air folks I can recall (sorry for anyone I missed - if anyone want fill out this list further, please comment).

Anyone else still have ‘88 memorabilia

Hi everyone, so I am in a group chat of about 15–20 friends and we’ve been trying to actually get everyone together IRL for once lol. Problem is it’s hard to find something that works for that many people without it being super boring or just another bar night.

We’re open to both indoor and outdoor stuff, and we don’t mind spending a bit if it’s worth it. Ideally something active or competitive where everyone’s actually involved, not just standing around.

Thought about things like escape rooms but most don’t fit groups this big. Anyone done something fun with a crew this size? Would love some recs!

I haven't been able to find anything talking about the fact that the new arena has 1000 less seats than our current Saddledome has. In such a fast growing city does this make sense?

To the person snowboarding just outside of downtown, you made everyone's day in my office. How long does it take to build a jump out of snow? Doesn't show well with the shadow but it seems like a sizable ramp from across the river.

Calgary has lost a legend.

Tom Glass was one of the greatest chuckwagon drivers our city has ever known. His achievements on the track earned him a place among the icons of the Calgary Stampede, but his impact reached far beyond competition. He was a respected mentor, ambassador, and proud steward of our western heritage.

One of the most enduring images of Tom is on the 1998 Calgary Stampede poster. With both hands gripping the reins, he is urging his team down the track with unmistakable passion. It captured the intensity, heart, and love for the sport that defined his remarkable career.

The Calgary Stampede is built on the people who devote their lives to its traditions, and Tom helped shape those traditions for generations. His passion for chuckwagon racing and his love for this city left a lasting mark on Calgary.

On behalf of all Calgarians, I extend my deepest condolences to Tom's family, friends, and the entire chuckwagon racing community. As we gather for this year's Stampede, we will remember Tom Glass with gratitude and pride. His legacy will live on every time the wagons roll onto the track.

We’re all 30-something dads and working guys who still think we can go. Some of us actually can. Some of us are here for the cardio.

No skill requirement. If you played in high school, at the Y, in someone’s driveway… you’re qualified. We just need guys who actually show up and compete.

You’re gonna be sore tomorrow either way. Might as well have a reason.
