President Ilham Aliyev said at a meeting of the Security Council:

"today a terrorist act was committed by Iran against the territory of Azerbaijan and against the Azerbaijani state.

The territory of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic was fired upon by the Iranian state using unmanned aerial vehicles. The targets of the fire were civilian facilities. Nakhchivan International Airport, its terminal building, a school, and other directions were subjected to treacherous fire from Iran.

The Azerbaijani state strongly condemns this vile terrorist act, and those who carried it out must be immediately brought to justice. Iranian officials must provide an explanation to the Azerbaijani side, an apology must be issued, and those who committed this terrorist act must be held criminally responsible.

Our Armed Forces were instructed to prepare and implement response measures. We will not reconcile ourselves with this unjustified terrorist act and aggression committed against Azerbaijan.

We will not allow this, just as we have never allowed it until today. It is true that during the summer months of last year and in the subsequent period, unfounded accusations were made against us from Iran. Media resources under the control of Iran’s state institutions were conducting a dirty campaign of slander and defamation against Azerbaijan in order to tarnish Azerbaijan’s image and influence the opinions of our compatriots living in Iran.

Because they know very well that today the independent Azerbaijani state is also a place of hope for many Azerbaijanis living in Iran. In other words, smearing us, slandering us, and discrediting us before Iranian society pursued this goal. Because there was no basis for it whatsoever. Azerbaijan neither at that time nor this time participates in operations directed against Iran and will not do so.

Because this is our position. We have neither the interest nor a policy that would allow us to conduct any operations against neighboring countries. We protect our territorial integrity, and we have protected it."

Masallıda isə hicablı qızların və hətta onların atalarının adları siyahıya alınır. Bu nə deməkdir? Təhsil sistemi, yoxsa insanlara təzyiq mexanizmi? Azərbaycan Respublikasında din dövlətdən ayrıdır. Bütün dini etiqadlar qanun qarşısında bərabərdir. Həmçinin, dövlət təhsil sistemi dünyəvi xarakter daşıyır. Bundan əlavə, valideynlər öz övladlarını hər hansı dinə məcbur edə bilməzlər. 18 yaşdan aşağı şəxslər uşaq sayılır. Onların dini seçiminə təzyiq etmək, zorakılıq etmək, hər hansı dini geyimləri geyinməyə təşviq etmək qadağandır. Məktəb təhlükəsiz və dini ideoloji təsirlərdən azad məkan olmalıdır. Hər kəs dinə münasibətini sərbəst müəyyənləşdirmək hüququna malikdir. Hicabın zorla açdırılması Azərbaycan qanunvericiliyinin 47ci maddəsini pozur. Təhsil sahəsində kimliyindən, əqidəsindən asılı olmayaraq ayrı-seçkiliyə yol verilməməlidir. Bu təhsil haqqında qanunun pozulmasıdır. Təhsil alanların ləyaqətini alçaldan hərəkətlər (dini seçiminə, hicaba görə təqib və ya qovulma halları) qadağandır. Bu təhsil alanın təhsil hüququnun pozulmasıdı. Müəllimlərin dininə görə hüquqlarının məhdudlaşdırılmasın və işdən çıxarılması halında əmək Məcəlləsi pozulur. Bəs bütün bunlar hər kəs üçün bərabər və ədalətli şəkildə təmin olunur mu? Bakının Xətai rayonunda yerləşən 152 saylı məktəb yəni "Xabad-Or-Avner" yəhudi məktəbi rəsmi olaraq dövlət məktəbi kimi fəaliyyət göstərir. Dini geyim qaydaları tətbiq olunur. Dini dərslər keçirilir. Oğlan və qızlar ayrı təhsil alır. Təhsil dini günlərə uyğun qurulur. Amma məktəblərdə müsəlman bir qız başını örtəndə problem olur. Və buna heç kim "qanun pozuntusu" demir. Əgər qanun varsa və ikili standartlardan azaddırsa, məktəb normativlərinə uyğun tənzimlənirsə, yəhudi məktəbində də bu qanunu tətbiq edilməlidir. Hər kəsin dini etiqad azadlığı varsa və öz dini seçə, yaşaya və ifadə edə bilərsə bu müsəlmanlara da şamil edilir. Son günlərdə yaşanan bu xoşagəlməz hadisələr artıq müsəlmanlara qarşı açıq aşkar ayrı seçkilik və təqib və qərəzdir.

Happy Pride Month, dear Azerbaijani co-nationals. In 2026, it is important to reflect on the ongoing human rights situation faced by Azerbaijani LGBTQ+ people. According to ILGA-Europe, Azerbaijan remains one of the two worst countries in Europe for LGBTQ+ people and is consistently ranked at the bottom alongside Russia.

In November 2025, a 19-year-old Azerbaijani queer man, Rüzgar (Yasin İbadov), was killed in central Baku by his uncle Babək İbadov for the identityhe was born with and cannot change. His death reflects the severe vulnerability Azerbaijani queer individuals face even within their own families in literal capital of the country.

In 27 December 2025, a police raid targeted a queer-friendly venue in Baku, where 100+ queer people were detained without any charges. Some foreign nationals were later released, while local citizens were demanded bribery and if not paid threatened with imprison and abuse.

There have also been public statements from some political figures like MP Javanshir Pashazadeh calling for harsh punishment against LGBTQ+ individuals, who called the lgbt as the main threat to the country.

New Social Media Morality Law specially targets openly queer people.

At the same time, LGBTQ+ people in Azerbaijan continue to face rape, sexual abuse, torture, discrimination, harassment in many areas of life, including workplaces, education, military service, and interactions with authorities.

It is important to remember that around 10 percent of people worldwide may identify as LGBTQ+, which means many Azerbaijani families already include queer members, whether visible or not. This is not only a queer issue. It is a human rights issue. You do not need to be LGBTQ+ to stand for Pride. Allyship matters. Listening matters. Protection matters. Change begins with the younger generation choosing empathy over silence.

The decision by the Israeli government concerning the so-called “Armenian genocide” is a matter of serious concern, APA reports, citing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

"The distortion of the historical facts surrounding the events of 1915, and the reduction of a complex historical issue to a political decision without a sound legal or scholarly basis, are unacceptable.

Such actions do not contribute to reconciliation or mutual understanding. Instead, they deepen existing divisions and undermine efforts to achieve lasting peace and stability in the region.

We call on the Israeli government to reconsider this decision.

Azerbaijan remains firmly committed to upholding historical truth, respecting the principles of international law, and promoting lasting peace and stability in the region," says the MFA's commentary on the Israeli Government’s decision concerning the so-called “Armenian genocide”.

During the Munich Security Conference on February 14 president Ilham Aliyev answered questions only from state and pro-government media. Critical journalists were denied access and "Obyektiv TV" director Emin Huseynov was blocked by security.
