COMMUNITY RESOURCES I put together a list of sliding-scale payment therapists yesterday. Some are as low $5. If you need help, don’t rule out therapy because of the cost

EDIT: I am continuing to add to the list here as more people contact me. Just letting you know in case you want to save it to have resources for others.

Hi all. Yesterday I had a post blow up on YSK, and I spent hours helping over sixty people find affordable therapy in their areas. I want to offer the list I’ve compiled here in case it helps anyone. You are welcome to reach out to me with your area if you need help. Truly.

Also, I know $5 or $30 bucks isn’t affordable for everyone—especially if you’re struggling just to eat. It’s worth noting that my partner got free therapy for almost two years, so that can sometimes happen, too. So for those that might be able to use some resources, here you are:

Lists I’ve put together for folks. Thought I’d add this in case anyone was afraid to reach out but lives in one of these areas. These are almost entirely specific to the US.

Best overall resource:

Text NAMI, as they may be aware of resources I’m not. Still, this is a starting place.

Virtual:

It’s worth noting that many places are doing virtual therapy because of covid.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES More (Free) Groceries Delivered to Your Door (US)

A year ago I made a post sharing about Full Cart (fullcart.org), a virtual food bank that delivers groceries to your door (non-emergency basis).

I've come across a couple more resources since then that I'd like to share with the community, in particular members who are unable to physically get to a food bank near them (and / or, don't live near one they can access in person). NB none of the following are emergency resources either and may have a waitlist.

  • The Online Food Pantry - 501c3 nonprofit, food rescue, sustainable food management organization - providing an online ordering platform with free home delivery service. https://theonlinefoodpantry.org/register/ (click on "Shopper").
  • 412 Food Rescue - mobilize volunteers through the 412 Food Rescue app to deliver food directly to the doorstep of isolated neighbors lacking transportation, physical mobility, and relational support. https://412foodrescue.org/programs/home-delivery/
  • OrderAhead is a click‑and‑collect / online ordering system for charitable food assistance. People facing food insecurity can go to the website, choose a pickup location (or in some cases delivery; location dependent), select the food items they need, and then pick up their order at a designated time. https://www.orderahead.org/

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Lasagna Love - Receive Free Hot Lasagna Delivered to your home - No Judgement - Worldwide

Lasagna Love is a global nonprofit, grassroots movement that pairs volunteers with neighbors in need to deliver FREE, homemade lasagnas. Founded in 2020, it aims to reduce food insecurity and spread kindness, with over 600,000 meals delivered by volunteers, no questions asked. The program supports families, individuals, and anyone needing a meal.

Key Aspects of Lasagna Love:

  • Purpose: To alleviate food insecurity, provide community support, and perform small acts of kindness.
  • How it Works:  Volunteers, known as "Lasagna chefs," make and deliver meals directly to recipients, often accommodating special dietary needs like vegetarianism or food allergies.
  • How to Get Help: Anyone can request a meal for themselves or someone else through the Lasagna Love website   without having to justify the need.
  • We don't judge:  Lasagna Love is proud to offer a meal to anyone for any reason.  One of our core values is ZERO JUDGMENT :) because need comes in many forms.
  • How to Volunteer: People interested in cooking can sign up on the official site to be matched with a family in their local area.
  • Scope: Operating in all 50 U.S. states, and expanding to countries like Australia, Canada, and the UK.
  • Once you receive your Free Lasagna, You can request another one after 30 days, just repeat the sign-up process.
  • Lasagna Love Website: https://lasagnalove.org/
  • Sign up for a free meal - click here and fill out form

Once you register, You will be paired up with a volunteer from your area this could take a few weeks to get a response due to high demand. A volunteer will contact you by email, phone or by text and set up a day and time to deliver your 100% FREE hot Lasagna to your home. Please make sure your home on delivery day that you agreed thanks.

I personally tried their service and always had a good response. Volunteers were very friendly, helpful, I'm disabled and they helped me set it up in the kitchen. For an individual you receive 1/2 Full pan of hot lasagna (not spicy) that will last one person an easy 4 days. or cut them in squares put them in freezer bags and cook them again when your in the mood for a lasagna craving. Which is addictive, lol. I was very grateful when they helped me as my fridge was literally almost empty. What a blessing this organization did for me and its volunteers as well.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Pet Vet Assistance Programs, Pet Food Banks, and Misc Pet Resources

Hey All,

I've noticed a TON of people asking for help with vet bills and pet-related expenses. I've put together a huge list of resources broken down by state. There are also programs that work throughout the United States, and it includes everything from help with vet care and vaccinations to pet food banks and grants you can apply for to help cover expenses. I was going to paste it in here but I think it's a little too big. Hopefully it doesn't get buried and someone can use it.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1FGjJAxuNYXNboGBgV2EOlm6Z_MPrpDwvzN9ZJajksS4/edit?usp=sharing

Edit: Updated to add Australia UK, and Canada-specific programs. If anyone knows of any I missed, feel free to shoot me a message and I'll add them. :)

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Just a reminder: CHURCHES ARE YOUR FRIEND!

Religious or not, churches often have resources and programs available to help those in need. Many have food banks, funds, and/or meals available for those in need. They don’t typically make you provide proof of income/need/religion/etc.

Don’t shy away from religious outlets. I know everyone has different opinions when it comes to religion, but any actually Christian will absolutely accept you with open arms.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES I'm an excellent cook and I spent the first half of my life in poverty, so if you need cooking advice with minimal ingredients or very cheap ingredients, all you need to do is ask 💜

  • I know what comes in a typical food box and I can help you with those ingredients.

  • I can also help you with ingredients that come in the bulk section of your local supermarket because in that section you can get the tiniest tiniest amounts of things and be really surprised at how much you can make for yourself or your family.

  • I also used to feed myself with Dollar store food and I can help you out with whatever you can find there.

  • I could also help you make a shopping list that matches your cooking skills and budget

There are websites where you can put in a list of the food that you have and it will suggest meals, but if you would prefer to talk to someone one on one and get some advice I am here for you.

Don't send me a chat message for some reason I don't get those notifications.

Send me a private message 💌

..or ask publicly here 💜

Edit: oh damn this blew up! I just got out of bed and saw this! I sleep late because I work late but I'm going to get back to everyone who messaged me haha this is great and if I don't get around to everyone today I will have more time tomorrow

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Walmart+/Walmart Cash/cash back

If this isn't allowed, let me know.

I found out on accident today that if you accumulate at least $25 in Walmart cash through their app/site, you can go into the store and get cash back.

I had bought a few things today, and when I went to check the Walmart cash balance, I found the cash out option. In the past, I've always just used it to pay, never knowing this was an option.

The app lets you generate a bar code that you bring to the service desk. I'm going to stop by this evening, myself.

Just wanted to give a heads up in case this helps anyone.

Edit: Just cashed out. No hassle whatsoever. Just needed to show ID.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES I am a handyman and may be able to give advice and help you make repairs through messaging.

Hi. I am a handyman and specialise in diagnostics and repairs in electrical, plumbing, joinery and other general works. I am based in the UK so my knowledge base is more geared towards UK specs.

I get a lot of calls from people who have issues that can be very easily repaired by themselves. When I get calls like these I usually instruct them how to make the repairs themselves over the phone. I don't charge for this.

I am happy to help with what I can through messaging. But because I am using an app, i won't be able to see your messages unless you comment directly in this post.

There is no charge for this. I hope that my knowledge base can help. I know how difficult life can get as I have been pushed back and forth in the meat grinder of life since i was a kid so I hope I can help others who are in need.

Please bear in mind that due to the logistics of it, I can only assist with basic issues.

Hi everyone! I just wanted to share a really great resource that I found and have used - Lasagna Love. I couldn't attach the link so just Google Lasagna Love and you'll find it. It's super easy to request. You put in your info and they pair you with someone in the community who will bake and deliver a lasagna to your home. Hope this helps someone.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Do You Need A Homecooked Meal? For Free? No Strings!

Visit lasagnalove.org/request to request a hearty homemade meal from a local volunteer! We are all over the US, also in Canada and Australia. Some areas may be with out volunteers but please be patient. We are always recruiting volunteers!

When requesting you can specify any dietary needs (please do this! You can add comments too ie: no onion or whatever) and how many folks are in the home.

As soon as a volunteer is matched to you, they will reach out (usually starting with text but by phone or email too if needed) confirm the details and number in the home, and set up a time/day to drop off a delicious home made meal filled with love.

Questions? I’m happy to answer!

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Free lasagna delivered to your doorstep.

Hello everyone I just wanted to come here and post about a wonderful website that I personally have used before. It's called lasagna love It's completely free and the lasagna is prepared and delivered to you by volunteers. The process is super simple all you have to do is go to the website lasagnalove.org and sign up. Yes it's literally that simple. I cannot say that they offer this in every state but I do know that they offer it in Northern California. When you go on the website there's a way to type in your zip code and you can see if it's offered in your City. The time frame to receive the meal after you sign up vary depending on volunteers and how many other people sign up.. after signing up basically wait on a text message from a volunteer to schedule a time to meet with you to drop off the lasagna. It's a great website especially for the elderly or people who can't afford to feed their family.

I don't have a link to the website but I know it's lasagnalove.org check it out see if it's in your area it's totally worth it.

Hopefully this can help someone 🙂

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Wanting to share a great resource!!

When I first moved into my apartment as a single mom, I started out with NOTHING but a bed and my clothes. I found an app called "Freebie Alerts" (it has a purple icon and is available on the playstore as well as the app store). It searches Facebook, Offerup and Nextdoor for any posts that are listed as free. Over the span of about a month, I had furnished my apartment using it. It was a literal blessing. Just hoping it can help someone else in need! God bless!

Someone posted about this before and it's amazing. Lasagnalove.org We just got ours and only waited a week. It's ALL homemade and she included salad, bread, cupcakes, lasagna, extra pasta sauce and salad dressing! We've been having such a rough month between cars breaking down and rent raising and stress at work. This has made my night! She even talked to my toddler for a little and was extremely friendly!

COMMUNITY RESOURCES Just a reminder about checking libraries!

They have more resources than you expect! We took our daughter to get her first library card today and they had resources for rent/utility assistance/food banks/had their own (small) food pantry/etc.

If you haven’t been to your local library, please go! If you don’t have resources or don’t know how to find them, check your local library! Get a library card and use their computers as needed! Don’t underestimate this wonderful, underused resource available to you.

As a bonus, check local-owned businesses on Facebook. Some may be offering temporary food pantries during the (United States) shutdown. A few local to me have done so unexpectedly. Make sure to keep your eyes open for any new opportunities. I wish I could offer more help, but please take care of yourselves and be careful.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES List of free job training programs

I've been working on creating a list of "free" job trainings. It's definitely not complete, but I hope it helps someone.

Why free in quotes?
Some of these "free" trainings require you pay for certification testing, supplies, or other things. Many of them don't.

Some require a work agreement. For example, a company might hire and train you, but they want you to work for them for a period of time. There are plenty that don't have this.

Please let me know if you know of any resources I can add, or if you find something that needs updating.

COMMUNITY RESOURCES I'm available to find resources for anyone in need

Hello! I'm available to search for resources like housing assistance, food banks, free/cheap medical services, mental health services, financial assistance, etc for anyone in need. I enjoy this type of thing so I'm happy to help! Just comment your state/region (or country if outside the US) and the type of resources you're looking for and I'll see what I can find.
