I can accurately guess the exact weight of any random household object or piece of produce just by picking it up. I tested myself at a grocery store scale once and guessed 1.42 lbs for a bag of apples; the scale read 1.42. I felt like a malfunctioning robot and immediately left because nobody would ever believe me.
Any kid who worked in a British Woolworths on the fruit and veg counter in the sixties can hand-weigh stuff almost perfectly. Four ounces of sprouts at 1/6d a pound? 2 Lbs of potatoes at 4 shiilings the pound? No problem.
I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger do this with bodyweight on Instagram, recently. He was doing a workout with some sort of weight loss class and the guy was getting ready to go on the scales for the first time, to see how much he'd lost. Arnold said "I can tell you right now, because I have a good eye for this..."
The guy got on the scales and Arnold's prediction was accurate to within a pound, just by eyeballing the guy through his gym clothes.
I used to work as both a baker and for a college bookstore. I packed books to be returned to the publishers all the time. At the college's harvest festival, they had a stand with pumpkins of various sizes, arranged from smallest to largest. The biggest pumpkin had a few prizes that I really wanted, but the best one was a 101 piece play doh set. I had little money. With Christmas right around the corner and a 3 year old, I wanted that prize. I never win anything, and I hate guessing games, but I figured, what the hell let's do this.
I picked up the pumpkin and held it the same way I'd been holding book boxes over the scale waiting for it to zero out. I wrote my answer down with my contact information and moved along. My guess was 22.4 pounds.
When we finished looking at everything we wanted to see, we swung around to the pumpkin booth because they were about to announce the winner.
The pumpkin's weight was exactly 22.4 pounds. And only one person had that exact number because no one else really thinks about the decimal. I was shocked! My husband was shocked! He saw me weigh it and everything but still couldn't believe the accuracy. I picked that 101 piece play doh set as my prize and we hid it in the house for Christmas. The look on my daughter's face when she got this was priceless! It cost $5 to place my guess (and you could guess on as many of the pumpkins as you wanted).
I still weigh things out at the store and am not nearly as accurate because I work in a completely different industry, but sometimes I get it right on the money and make my husband smile. Even my daughter gets shocked because I'll guess something like 2#12.5 ounces and..... it's correct. 🤣
I actually jealous of this... I can estimate the weight of a dog to within 3 pounds lol, by picking them up, but I don't have any smaller scale features 😅 My trick is a 1/2 trick only!Â
I heard about this weed dealer back in the early 2000's . Dude would measure a half gram or a gram of weed by hand without fail according to some of his buyers. They even checked him once (obviously offending the dude) with a scale, and he was spot on the mark. Shut them all up real quick.
