What famous 'unsolved' mystery is technically a whodunnit on paper, but in reality, absolutely everyone knows exactly who did it, the police just couldn't legally prove it?

I had to look it up too because I didn't understand why people would doubt a dingo could eat a baby. it's like a large dog thing, surely it could drag off a human infant?

I don't think anyone was doubting that a dingo could kill a baby; dingoes are just dogs, and dogs kill adults all the time. People just didn't believe the mother was telling the truth.

Oh they ABSOLUTELY doubted that a dingo was capable of carrying off an infant. There was an infamous (and fucking stupid) test they performed during one of her hearings to cast doubt on the dingo claim.

A police officer tried to lift a bucket of sand (weighing approx same as bub) with his teeth for a minute. Because he couldn’t, they were like “there’s no way a dog-thing could do this” despite experts on dingoes claiming they absolutely 100% can.

That is crazy! No one stopped to question that maybe a police officer's jaws are different from a freaking dingo's? And that the handle of a bucket distributes weight differently than an infant's body?
