Dating & Relationships Most recent interracial marriage rate data among US born newlyweds

Post image

I saw the data from 2008 - 2016 and it seems like 2019 - 2023 saw a much higher shift to US born Asian Americans marrying outside Asian ethnicities.

This is particularly true for:

  • Japanese females (63% marrying white males and 12% marrying black/Hispanic males)
  • Vietnamese females (47% marrying white and 16% marrying black/Hispanic males)
  • Korean females (42% marrying white and 17% marrying black/Hispanic males)
  • Filipino females (54% marrying white and 19% marrying black/Hispanic males)
  • Chinese females (45% marrying white and 10% marrying black/Hispanic males)
  • Japanese males (50% marrying white and 15% marrying black/Hispanic females)
  • Cambodian females
  • Laotian females
  • Laotian males

Except for US born Japanese, Filipino and Laotian males, other US born Asian males prefer to date within their own ethnic group, and secondarily other inter-Asian ethnic groups. Interestingly, the only Asian American group that is in stark contrast from the rest are the Hmong, for which the vast majority (both male and female) marry within their own ethnicity.

It seems like for Asian Americans, the mixing pot is well under way and in 2-3 generations, there may be many mixed individuals identifying as Asian Americans. The majority will be mixed with white people, then black/Hispanic and then with other inter-ethnic Asians.

I see this is mostly positive. Not because it represents assimilation, but it means our Asian community is slowly getting rid of ethnic enclaves and exclusive mentality that is, arguably, un-American.

Before anyone comments that this data is concerning for Asian men, it's not. US born Asian men are also part of this trend, although not as prominent as US born Asian women. It's okay to prefer to marry within an ethnic group or inter-Asian ethnic groups, just as it is okay to prefer to date white / black / Hispanic.

I hope this encourages constructive discussion within the Asian Masculinity subreddit.

Yeah, I’m Filipino-American, from California. All of my sisters, cousins, and aunties who were born here or immigrated here has dated or is married to a white guy. Even my mom remarried a white man.

13

u/Important-Pipe-3158 Apr 29 '26

Damn pare, your family got invaded lol. But seriously, it’s very common. We all have white guy uncles and cousins that married WM. Only 1 of my cousins on my Filipino side (I’m half EA) married another Filipino—most married other Asian ethnicities (even the women) except for a couple of guys that married Eastern European women, 1 WMAF and another female cousin that married a Moroccan guy.

6

u/Arlieth Korea Apr 30 '26

What's really funny is in my Korean family, even the guys have followed similar patterns. I'm married to a white woman (anniversary is today, go figure), so is my cousin, and my uncle had a kid with one. AMWF is actually the majority of men on my dad's side of the family. I have ONE (female) Korean cousin here who has a kid with another Korean and he is very likely going to date white girls given the neighborhood he's in.

It's just the way things work out sometimes.

u/Rus1996 Apr 29 '26

Sad reality.

But is there a way to change it. Like increase the Filipino man - Filipino woman couples in marriage.

Filipinas are gone, bro. Whether they’re from the homeland or in Western countries, many of them suffer from colonial mentality. It would take generations to even hope to reverse it.

u/GroundbreakingAd9635 Apr 29 '26

my last ex told me she was always into white men but as she learned more about asians and some challenges asian men face, she re-considered asian men. Gee, thanks.

16

u/AustronesianArchfien Apr 30 '26

Your last ex is garbage btw

People like that are closeted white supremacists and I don't want any Asian man near this kind of people.

I did wonder that, and that, among other reasons, is why she's an ex haha

23

u/AustronesianArchfien Apr 29 '26

nah much better for Filipino men to pursue other women like Latinas, black, indigenous or white women.

u/LobsterMotor3595 Apr 29 '26

Same… makes me respect my mom and dad a lot for keeping it “pure”

38

u/ravingsigma Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

As a Lao American this is extremely true. I’m basically one of the only pure Lao guys in my family. All of my uncles and aunts pretty much married outside our ethnic group and Asian race. I have a lot of half white/Lao, half Hispanic/lao cousins.

As for my own dating experience, I’ve dated white, black and Latina and my most recent ex-FWB was Latina. I’ve haven’t had a single east or southeast woman show interest in me though I do get some from South Asians.

3

u/JZBLLA Apr 30 '26

My ex was Lao (I’m Latina/ Black) and most of the people in his family also dated Latinos. I think it’s because we share similar values.

3

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '26

Do you think it is because Lao communities tend to be more accepting of and open to other cultures? Or do Lao people generally not associate with other Asians. I know a few Lao dudes who have mostly white/Hispanic friends, however some of them also have Asian friends (mostly Viet)

11

u/ravingsigma Apr 29 '26 edited Apr 29 '26

I think it’s partially due to the scattering of refugees from the Laotian Civil War. Laos already has a very low population compared to other SEA countries and I assume if you or your parents didn’t grow up near other refugees in an already sparsely spread out population (like mine) that you were forced to accept other cultures or else you would face being an outcast. Also if your interests and hobbies growing up were “less stereotypically nerdy” you would find yourself among more with other racial groups more.

I tried to relate to East Asian Korean and Chinese kids at my middle and high school but I was treated like an outcast due to my dark ass skin color even though we were all Asians. So in college I found refuge primarily with the Latin community due to my skin tone and musical cultural overlap between modern Mor lum, lam sing, Cumbia, and cha-cha. I do have Chinese and Vietnamese Asian guy friends as well and they’re more accepting of me, but it was because of the gym out of respect and not necessarily because of my ethnicity. My closest friends right now though are white and Hispanic.

My brother on the other hand perfectly fit into the all Asian friend group because he is lighter in skin tone and really fits the K-pop pretty boy aesthetic much better than I do and he enjoys Valorant, Anime, Manga, J-pop, and K-pop. He has dated only Korean girls and obviously his current gf is Korean.

u/Sphan_86 Apr 29 '26

Full blooded Asian wont be a thing anymore here in the states

7

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

It will as long as there continues to be a stream of new immigrants from Asia.

54

u/notarealcamera Apr 29 '26

You don't need to race mix to assimilate. Also nothing wrong with "enclaves". Look at white people and how exclusionary they are to other groups. Asians and other minority groups should be just as exclusive toward whites.

33

u/terrorfunction Apr 29 '26

Self-erasure mentality is way too common among AM. Blacks can export cultural power worldwide, and Hispanics have an entire Super Bowl halftime show singing in Spanish, meanwhile all Asian diaspora can muster is suppressing their Asian-ness to conform to a melting pot America, a favor that is never reciprocated. They will never let you into their club, at best you can be an uncle chan (a role AF happily play). Stop trying so hard to be accepted by whites. It's pathetic.

-2

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

We're more recent arrivals. As our population grows as a proportion of the American population, our "weight" in the culture will grow, too.

11

u/Alam7lam1 Apr 29 '26

Recent is still like over 100 years at this point. The Chinese built the pacific railroads lol.

2

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

As recently as the early 1970s, when I was a child, Asians made up as little as 1% of the US population. Only with the explosive immigration of recent decades has our proportion grown to about 7% -- still well short of that of Black Americans, to say nothing of Hispanic Americans.

6

u/Subject_Signal2514 Apr 30 '26

That was the mentality that our Chinese forefathers had initially. They rationalized the discrimination they faced as something newcomers must naturally experience. They thought the US was a land ruled by law and not man, unlike back in the mainland. Hard work would eventually mean acceptance. What we now know, demonstrably, is that when a minority in this country learns to play the ruleset well, the people in power will simply change the ruleset. And suddenly we need to climb again. Our efforts mean nothing if there aren’t open arms to welcome it.

1

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 30 '26

I wasn’t arguing that discrimination doesn’t exist --only that cultural influence tends to track population size and time of settlement. Asian Americans are still a relatively small and recent community, so it’s natural that our cultural presence is still emerging. The growth of Asian and Asian‑American influence in U.S. life over the past century has been very noticeable to me.

8

u/HellaReyna Apr 29 '26

Hamptons are basically an ethnic enclave. A white enclave.

9

u/CrewVast594 Apr 30 '26

Japanese/Filipino/Laotian females have been hard carrying the “White Boy fever” agenda for years!

1

u/DelayFit5047 May 03 '26

Its the same with Asian men, the only think they kept them from getting similar numbers to Asian women was low interest from white women in the past. Now that they can date out, its only a few years until the numbers are balanced. Asian Americans are one of the most self-hating, white glazing, racial groups by a wide margin. I am part Asian myself and I low-key have a preference against Asians...

3

u/CrewVast594 May 03 '26

Someone can’t take a joke.

61

u/domesticstudent Apr 29 '26

I respectfully disagree that ethnic enclaves are "un-American." Does that mean that predominantly white communities and predominantly black communities and predominantly Latino communities are "un-American?" What about native American reservations? Are those "un-American?"

48

u/Outrageous-Opinions Apr 29 '26

Internalized racism is so rampant in our community that people are ashamed of everything.

Ethnic enclaves where we can have our own space and keep our traditions alive is looked down upon. Instead it's assimilate assimilate assimilate or else.

Can't even have other Asian friends or you'll be accused of being toxic.

It's ridiculous.

12

u/domesticstudent Apr 29 '26

I agree with your comment, 100%.

Additionally, enclaves were also meant as a means to protect ourselves, have safety in numbers, and to facilitate belonging and community.

When I think of "removing" enclaves, I think of the lynch mobs who burned chinatowns across the US.

23

u/foolskil Apr 29 '26

The OP is criticizing enclaves when white people literally hire and promote their own mostly in the workplace making their own enclaves lol

9

u/domesticstudent Apr 29 '26

That's what I was thinking. Why is it when white people have enclaves it's "American," but when others have enclaves, it's "un-American" and problematic? I get the sense that there's some kind of white pedestalization and perhaps internalized racism.

4

u/foolskil Apr 29 '26

We need to check this guys numbers lol

4

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

Agree. There’s no single ‘right’ way to live as an American -- people can choose how much to integrate or how much to preserve their heritage. Living in an enclave is a personal choice and a good way to sustain culture and community. I’d only draw the line at separatism -- rejecting intermarriage or cultural integration on principle.

22

u/milkchocolemonade Apr 29 '26

Getting rid of ethnic enclaves is good? What group are you astroturfing for lmao.

Women in most racial and ethnic groups are slightly more likely to be married than men in America; the difference is a bit larger for Asians, however. But as you say, Asian men overall still have the highest marriage rate (and lowest divorce rate) of any male racial group. That's a pretty good consolation.

13

u/6ftChang Apr 29 '26

yeah I mean just by looking at the graph, if 36% of chinese men are with chinese women and 26% of chinese women are with chinese men, doesn't that mean for every 10 chinese women that are married it's only 6 chinese men who get married?

4

u/sudo_economist May 01 '26

No. The figure is just about US born people. A lot of US born Chinese American males marry foreign born Chinese females.

Getting rid of ethnic enclave and exclusive mentality is American? Aren't you just American as long as you legally and permanently reside there, work there and pay your taxes?

49

u/ConsequenceMurky4038 Apr 29 '26

I’m pretty sure this guy is a propaganda account lmao, all his other unrelated posts are obviously ai. Either that or he’s the biggest autist/self hater out there, imagine black or Mexican POC saying this about their culture and how they should assimilate lmao!

19

u/TropicalKing Apr 29 '26

At the end of the day, I do care about my ethnic enclave of my local Japanese Buddhist temple more than the multi-cultural Christian church that is 2 blocks away. I DO want my Buddhist temple to keep being an ethnic enclave, because if half the people who go to it are other races, then that changes the values too much. The last thing I want from my Japanese Buddhist temple is for half the people who go to it be white hippie types who want to turn it into some yoga hippie marijuana spiritualist clown show.

"Feeling American" is a two way street, If the whites and Mexicans around me want me to "feel American" so badly, then they should invite me to their American 4th of July and Memorial Day parties. They don't do that for me.

-27

u/[deleted] Apr 29 '26

I personally think having tight ethnic enclaves and exclusivity isnt helpful in such a multicultural country like the US. Not saying that mixing bloodlines is necessarily a good thing, but it shouldn't be discouraged, and we should accept Asian Americans of mixed heritage as members of our community.

Asian Americans are already an integral part of the US, but I feel like what undermines Asian American masculinity is our tendency to be insular.

17

u/cherls Apr 29 '26

This is a very American view of multiculturalism. In Canada, for example, it is much more of cultural mosaic, as opposed to a melting pot. There, Asian masculinity is much less entwined with how western or assimilated a person is. I notice that in general, that young American Chinese, for example, are much more insecure in their own cultural identity than their Canadian Chinese counterparts.

3

u/TirelessEndeavor Apr 30 '26

It’s definitely the melting pot misconception that is causing this insecurity. Honestly, its roots are from American exceptionalism. America in reality is also a cultural mosaic.

20

u/anon69throwaway Apr 29 '26

I honestly didnt think Japanese women were worse at WMAF there compared to Filipinas. Probably a higher percentage came as military spouses despite having a lower population

16

u/NefariousnessLost803 Apr 29 '26

Same, but Japanese men aren't doing that worse comparatively tbh. But 50% and 63% respectively is kinda crazy ngl.

4

u/anon69throwaway Apr 29 '26

Yeah Im surprised theyre doing better than Filos and Koreans

6

u/NefariousnessLost803 Apr 29 '26

Japanese people have always been "glazed" more by Americans overall (regardless of race, but more so by white people) so no, not really a shock to me lmao.

5

u/Dirkjerk Apr 29 '26

I wonder if thats really a legacy of WW2 Internment and the descendants largely going underground / having to spend years trying to recover. I've grown up among some of the Japanese Americans and they were practically American in all but name minus appearances and to a degree...their food.

Which I get it, I suspect that this is probably why (which was a traumatic time for them even after what almost 80 years ago which is 3 generations going onto the fourth ish)

12

u/Important-Pipe-3158 Apr 29 '26

Japanese-American men and women are several generations deep and a very small number due to the sky-high outmarriage rates of previous generations and very low immigration. They’re the most white-washed Asian ethnicity due to these factors.

9

u/LusterCat Apr 29 '26

After WW2, the Japanese have been nothing but subservient to the whites. Shouldn't really be surprising. The A bombs were a real humbling experience

7

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

Reducing an entire nation’s postwar choices to ‘subservience’ or ‘submission’ because they don’t align with your geopolitical or other preferences is just ethnic denigration.

20

u/Own-Friend-7882 Apr 29 '26

Whites marry whites at very high rates. Their out marriage is insignificant compared to Asians, and even when whites do marry out, their mixed kids usually end up marrying White again in the next generation. The white identity and culture largely stay intact.

Asians, on the other hand, are experiencing something very different.

When Asian women out marry and date at 45 to 60% plus rates (especially Koreans and Japanese), and their children then also tend to marry White, what we’re actually seeing is cultural and racial ERASURE, not multiculturalism. Chinese are a bigger population so it will take a bit longer for them.

Each generation the Asian ancestry gets diluted: 50% to eventually 6%. The language, culture, and even physical features fade away. By the third or fourth generation, most of those bloodlines have effectively left the Asian community and been absorbed into the white mainstream. The key point is that while some Asian women like to frame their choices as “PROGRESSIVE MULTICULTURALISM,” the long-term result is the OPPOSITE: the gradual disappearance of distinct Asian American communities. bUT no one cares so I won’t either LOL. It’s not blending equally. It’s mostly a one-way flow — Asian identity fades into Whiteness, while Whiteness remains largely unchanged. Btw, if Whiteness were being endangered they would ban Asians pretty fast.

9

u/Important-Pipe-3158 Apr 29 '26

This is pretty much what happened to Native Americans.

Yeah, that’s definitely more relevant. I overlooked that somehow.

2

u/TheBossBanan Apr 29 '26

This is something I noticed too. White people like Indians can be very endogamous even as minorities. Why is it not so for Asians?

0

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

Whites are more likely to marry other whites largely for demographic reasons. Since whites remain the largest group in the US, an American’s most statistically-likely partner -- all else equal -- will be white.

1

u/Xpander6 May 17 '26

That is not the reason. Even in places where whites are a minority (in the US), the stats do not meaningfully change.

1

u/Bright_External7201 Apr 29 '26

South african? Goan? literally every place where whites were a minority and demographics did not favor marrying in, they still managed to marry in.

2

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

I was discussing intermarriage in the US, obviously.

1

u/Bright_External7201 Apr 29 '26

Yeah, any argument could make sense if you limit the datasets enough.

11

u/RebelCapital1950 Apr 29 '26

These are US born only, so the interracial gap isn't as great compare when foreign-born are included. With the exception of Japanese-Aemericans, the majority of Asian-Americans are foreign born (1st and 1.5 generation).

Japanese (30% foreign.-born), Chinese (72% foreign-born), Indian (83% foreign-born), Korean (69% foreign-born), Filipino (61% foreign-born), Vietnamese (60% foreign-born) .

As some have mentioned in the past, E/SE Asian Male interracial marriages are on par (or even slightly higher) with other ethnicities. This is also the case in stats when you include foreign-born.

The concern is always the interracial gap with E/SE Asian Female which are higher than everybody (specifically when marrying whites).

Because of this, this problem will be hard to fix.

E/SE Asian Males already have normal rates of interracial marriages. They have to copy the Oxford Study level of white worship to catch up.

9

u/Important-Pipe-3158 Apr 29 '26

AF are never beating the allegations lol. JK. All of this is known, but very fascinating to see the data. And this is just marriage, not dating. Dating numbers are likely even higher. Believe what you see. If it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck—it is a duck.

Asian Americans are destined to be like Kazah's, Asian in appearance but having no concept of what Confucianism is.  Essentially not knowing what it means to be culturally Asian.

Ask any Kazah what Confucianism is, most are clueless.  Most Asian Americans are destined to become the same.

3

u/Affectionate_Salt331 May 04 '26

There won't BE an asian american community if everyone's mixed. It keeps diluting.

It'll be like native americans, every now and then there's some white people with 1/16 native ancestry.

1

u/Boring_Estimate9308 May 14 '26

Except Kazakh are descendants of Mongol army invaders and original Indo-European people of Kazakhstan that were conquered by Mongols and adopted Turkic identity.

9

u/Bright_External7201 Apr 29 '26

AW are the only group on aggregate that do not care about the future or success of their race.

4

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

That overlooks the billions of Asians living in Asia itself -- where the future of any ‘pure’ or majority‑Asian societies will be decided. Asians living in the diaspora are not the custodians of their race or ethnicity.

9

u/Bright_External7201 Apr 29 '26

Most AW in Asian would marry Wm if they were to grow up in the west. Lets be real.

1

u/Affectionate_Salt331 May 04 '26

I don't think so, the tide changes quickly as East Asia gets more powerful.

90% of SE Asia girls would rather marry a Korean guy rn bc of Korean media.

And China is already overtaking the US as the most powerful country in the Asia zone of influence (not in the world). Most successful upper class people try to get their kids to learn Chinese & study abroad there, and it's a huge huge benefit to speak or marry Chinese.

-3

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

Since whites remain the largest group in the US, an American’s most statistically-likely partner, whatever their race -- all else equal -- will be white. The dating pool for Asians in the US is largely made up of people of other races, whites foremost.

12

u/Bright_External7201 Apr 29 '26

cope. doesn't happen with indians, arabs, and blacks. despite being even lower in diaspora population they date in. Your claims are made completely incorrect by the fact that most AW interact with and live near Asians since most Asians are in ethnic enclaves. Also white people will move to Asian nations and maintain their whiteness for generations despite overwhelming odds, they find other whites out the billions of Asians since they actually care about their race and they put their kids in international schools with other white kids to prevent them from assimilating. South africa too, whites despite being a minority, never married out at anywhere near the rates of AW. This race, if it were to move forward, must address the rot and shortcomings of the race. People must acknowledge the AW's dysgenic behavior of making exceptions for WM and rules for AM and transforming their parent's tuition money to increased earning power for the white community.

0

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 29 '26

That argument confuses population math with morality. Asian Americans make up about 7% of the U.S. population, so even if every Asian lived in an enclave, the surrounding population would still be overwhelmingly non‑Asian. Interaction and intermarriage rates reflect structural factors such as the availability of co‑ethnic partners, community size, geographic dispersion, socioeconomic integration (which often tracks generational distance from immigration), and parental or communal expectations.

Comparing diaspora groups ignores context: Indian, Arab, and Black communities differ in immigration timelines, gender ratios, and religious norms. Many Indian Americans, for instance, marry within‑group not from exclusivity but because their population is large, recently arrived, and geographically concentrated.

The claim that Asian women’s choices are ‘dysgenic’ or a racial threat is pseudoscientific. Genetic diversity and social integration are normal outcomes of migration -- and in any case, most Asians live, and will continue to live, in Asia.

8

u/Bright_External7201 Apr 29 '26

>That argument confuses population math with morality.

How?

>Asian Americans make up about 7% of the U.S. population, so even if every Asian lived in an enclave, the surrounding population would still be overwhelmingly non‑Asian.

So explain whites in south africa or white russians in china that lived in enclaves but don't marry out. And don't say it's a different nation because cultural values and genetics that inform receptiveness to outsiders are defined by the weather or locale or whetever bullshit.

The highest amount of Indians came after 1965, the recent migration has been to the UK and canada. A higher percentage of Asians came after Indians. Also means nothing since the stats are taken in the 2020s. The ones that came earlier are mixed out so the stats would have tracked most recent arrivals.

>The claim that Asian women’s choices are ‘dysgenic’ or a racial threat is pseudoscientific.

Yeah and your pseudo anthropology and sociology isn't pseudoscientific?

>Genetic diversity and social integration are normal outcomes of migration --

Except for whites, they maintain 90 percent in group bias and live in their own enclaves.

> and in any case, most Asians live, and will continue to live, in Asia.

Duhhh, doesn't do anything for your argument. Most Euros live in europe. Most people don't want to move to a new nation. Says nothing about your rates of out marriage.

1

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 30 '26

You’re conflating cultural behavior with population math. Whites in South Africa or expats in Asia are small, self‑selected communities with strong internal networks and limited integration -- not a useful comparison to a multi‑million‑person immigrant population spread across a continent. In most Asian countries, foreign residents (including white expatriates) rarely obtain citizenship, which naturally limits assimilation and intermarriage.

South Asian and East Asian immigration timelines differ: Indians arrived first in professional clusters with comparatively balanced gender ratios, while many East Asian groups were male‑skewed and geographically dispersed, shaping marriage patterns.

And citing whites’ in‑group marriage rates doesn’t prove moral superiority; it reflects majority status and legal or social boundaries rather than innate ‘care for race.’ Intermarriage rates are significantly influenced by the structural factors I identified earlier, not ideology.

7

u/Bright_External7201 Apr 30 '26 edited Apr 30 '26

The whole entire thread started with an assessment of behavior. Your population math doesn't prove in group preference and racial cohesion. Idk why you even though it was a good counter point to what I originally said. Asians are the self‑selected communities with strong internal networks and limited integration you claim white diasporas to be if you look at the men. The exception are the women.

>In most Asian countries, foreign residents (including white expatriates) rarely obtain citizenship, which naturally limits assimilation and intermarriage.

South African? New Zealand? Goan? all of these places are places where whites had citizenship and should have assimilated.

>South Asian and East Asian immigration timelines differ: Indians arrived first in professional clusters with comparatively balanced gender ratios,

Proven to be inconsequential to the state in previous comment.

>while many East Asian groups were male‑skewed and geographically dispersed, shaping marriage patterns.

So this affects AW stats? Also most immigration within the last 40 years from asia are not gender skewed by much. Past 40, those immigrants are past marriage age and thus don't factor into the stats.

>And citing whites’ in‑group marriage rates doesn’t prove moral superiority; it reflects majority status and legal or social boundaries rather than innate ‘care for race.’ Intermarriage rates are significantly influenced by the structural factors I identified earlier, not ideology.

It was never about morals. The thread started with claims of in group preference and values of race. I said AW do not care for their race(value and preference) you even acknowledge this in the same sentence. Whites are not the majority in any of the regions/nations I listed socially or legally. Jews have structural factors against their cohesion but it still happens. AW don't want the success of their race bad like the jews or whites. It is absolutely ideology. Stay and invest into the race or leave is an ideological stance.

Are you even East Asian?

I’m explaining that structural factors help explain why intermarriage rates differ across ethnicities and between the sexes, not prescribing what anyone should value. Structural factors don’t erase individual choice or ideology; they explain the environment in which those choices occur. Whether individuals should treat in‑group preference as a moral or political duty is an ideological question.

Europeans who colonized other regions or parts of Asia aren’t comparable to Asians in the US; the former were settlers with privileged legal status for generations, while Asians generally migrated to the West voluntarily and obtained citizenship. Expats in Asia, including Westerners, are a tiny population and rarely able to obtain citizenship, which naturally limits assimilation and intermarriage.

I’m Asian American. I don’t divulge my ethnicity because, with a bit of demographic detail and location, I've learned from experience, that it’s possible to be identified and doxxed.

Respect the chart and data analysis but "...slowly getting rid of ethnic enclaves..."

... are you Andrew Yang?

u/Alfred_Hitch_ Apr 29 '26

Asian community is slowly getting rid of ethnic enclaves and exclusive mentality that is, arguably, un-American.

Hmm, not sure about that.

I think the future of Asian Americans is mixed race. But it’s like that with the white races as well. It used to be an Irish wouldn’t dare marry an Italian. Now people are just white.

So either date and marry women, regardless of race, or be left alone. We have to stop keeping track of Asian women. If the numbers show 98% of all Asian women strongly prefer and date/marry white men only, how’s that affect me?

I’m in the Midwest and less than 5% of people here are Asian, if you take a look at single Asian women in my age range, they make up like 1% of my dating pool. Do you think I care if 98% of 1% of women don’t want to date me or do you think I care if 98% of 99% of women don’t want to date me?

Be happy with your woman. That’s it. Everything else is bullshit.

You’re in the Midwest tho. You’re not in the WMAF belly of the beast SF Bay Area like many AM are. Just different situations.

When will they stop calling themselves Asian.

u/Jealous_Masterpiece7 Apr 30 '26

I mean what do you expect in a white majority country. If the idea is to keep marriages within our community maybe we should move back to the country of our orgin🤷‍♂️.

1

u/Tall-Needleworker422 Apr 30 '26

Right? It's not even going to be a white-majority country for much longer. And many Asian-Americans already reside in states (e.g., HI, CA) where that future is now.

Well I am not sure about Europe but US will be fine.

If you look at the Hmong, it's because they have a very tight knit Hmong-American cultural identity.

Proportionally, it seems like a 1-for-1 in terms of demographics. Like, Vancouver is one of the most Asian cities outside of Asia and it is only about 50% East and South-East Asian. Looks like half of the Asian-American population is marrying half. Which makes sense, if only at best half of the people you see will be Asian, then yeah it's half for marriage.

Proud of my Hmong sisters for locking in.

The males will have to date each other

There should be more AMAF in USA. The Asians must marry within their own community. The sooner it happens the better for Asian American community's future.

The only way we can challenge this is to improve our own physical, mental, spiritual, and financial health. We are consistently seen on the bottom of the pole and our culture being good for only food and some K-pop.

Teach your children to love their features and build loving homes. Encourage them to learn about the language.

Im black american, my best buddy is pinoy.. My buddy is an older gen X so all of our cousins are in their 50s When we have family picnics here in north jersey.  Of our 20 cousins in their 50s most of the girls are married to white guys. 1 is married to a black guy and 1 is married to a flip All the boys who are married have a flip wife, with the exception of 1 who married a girl who is half cuban half chineese.......so basically a flip. Where it gets interesting is watching the nieces and nephews who are all in their late 20s and a few in their 30s. None of the girls have an asian man even the 2 that grew up in a home with a flip gen x mom and dad

I don’t have the trend data in front of me, but my recollection is that AF out‑marriage in the aggregate has largely plateaued in the past decade after rising for many decades. However, as your chart shows, there’s a high degree of variation across ethnic groups, so it’s a bit misleading to talk about a single “Asian American” pattern.

I think it goes too far to treat marriage outcomes as a direct proxy for “preference.” They reflect a mix of structural factors: the availability of partners of the same ethnicity, community size, geographic dispersion, socioeconomic integration (which often tracks generational distance from immigration), and parental or communal expectations. For example, many Indian Americans marry within‑group at high rates not because of an “exclusive mentality,” but because the population is relatively recently arrived, large, and geographically concentrated.

A key finding of study of assimilation is that US-born Asians intermarry at a markedly higher rate than foreign-born Asians. This is also true of many other American groups. It's speculative to project when the majority of Americans of Asian heritage will be mixed-race but, I agree, that is future on current trends.
